Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross: July 2014
http://nikkiscrubs.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross. Friday, July 11, 2014. This post is long over due since it’s already the end of my third week at Thomas Memorial Hospital. I've been preoccupied with moving out of my Pittsburgh house (for good), becoming acquainted with Charleston, going back to Morgantown for a test, and watching the World Cup (biggest, yet best, distraction). It's hard to believe that I'm at my 7th rotation site already, only 3 more to go! And get this- they give us free lunch every day! Simple templa...

Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross: Uh-Oh - A trip to the ER!
http://nikkiscrubs.blogspot.com/2014/06/uh-oh-trip-to-er.html
Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross. Monday, June 23, 2014. Uh-Oh - A trip to the ER! All smiles in the ER - yes my supervisor did capture. Every step of the adventure. Of course it had to be the middle finger! Injuries like this are a very real part of being a Pathologists’ Assistant – typically they aren't as severe as this one, but nicks and scrapes are bound to happen. If I had cut myself on a fresh specimen, like the leg I was previously working on, I may not have been so lucky. View my complete profile.

Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross: October 2014
http://nikkiscrubs.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross. Sunday, October 5, 2014. This post, like many of the others, is long overdue. It seems the closer we get to graduation, the more hectic each day becomes. It’s crazy to think that in three weeks I’ll be leaving for my last rotation, in Los Angeles. And then just eight short weeks after that I’ll be graduating (and hopefully have a job). Where has the time gone? I’ve moved back to Pittsburgh and am starting my fourth week at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Sometimes it’s...

Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross: PathMD
http://nikkiscrubs.blogspot.com/2014/11/pathmd.html
Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross. Friday, November 14, 2014. I’m not sure where this year has gone, but here I am at my 10. And final rotation site – PathMD in Los Angeles, California. PathMD is a private lab, aligned with UCLA and Miraca, providing pathology services to clients throughout the country, primarily Southern California. In addition to the gross room, the lab also houses histology, cytology, and billing offices. They also provide our flights to and from Los Angeles. The environment at PathMD ...

Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross. Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Top 10 Tips for Clinical Year. With only 4.5 weeks left until graduation, I thought I'd give my top 10 tips to having a successful clinical year! 2 Try your best to never make the histotechs angry. You don't want to make them work harder if it can be avoided. Strive to not submit staples or super thick fatty sections! They'll appreciate it and it'll give you a better understanding of what goes on in the lab. 7 Don't be scared or intimidated ...

Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross: Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center
http://nikkiscrubs.blogspot.com/2014/08/conemaugh-memorial-medical-center.html
Becoming a PA: It's Pretty Gross. Sunday, August 17, 2014. Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Time has been flying by and it’s hard to believe there are only 18 weeks of rotations left! It was sad leaving Thomas Memorial, which had quickly become one of my favorite rotation sites. The past few weeks have been consumed by serious board exam studying, applying for jobs, and preparing for interviews and presentations. I promise to work on more creative posts for the upcoming weeks! View my complete profile.

That Girl with the Scalpel: December 2013
http://thatgirlwiththescalpel.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
That Girl with the Scalpel. A recently graduated Pathologists' Assistant. Tuesday, December 31, 2013. The year that was, and the year that will be. 2013 was chock full of exciting and wondrous things, and a few things I'd rather never have happen again. I will forget to mention great swathes of things that mattered, I'm sure, but that is par for the course. The things that seemed so horrible at the time (I'm looking at you laptop crash! The pathologists are nice too, but not as fun to hang out with!

That Girl with the Scalpel: November 2014
http://thatgirlwiththescalpel.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
That Girl with the Scalpel. A recently graduated Pathologists' Assistant. Sunday, November 30, 2014. The other PA where I work has been promoted to interim lab director in a week or so, which I hope will be a good experience for her! I have other things I need to blog about but because of those other things, I haven't had too much spare time! Maybe in a few days. Sunday, November 9, 2014. I got to see the renovated autopsy suites (SO BRIGHT! The concert was amazing and I had a great time in Durham, as al...
