Studio Updates: Light, Space, Action!
http://conservation-studio-1.blogspot.com/2011/08/light-space-action.html
Saturday, August 6, 2011. Light, Space, Action! After years of working with no natural light and a fume cupboard that seems to have lost its bearing being in the middle of the studio, we have finally managed to have the studio rearranged so that we can see out of our windows and have more working space! And now it is back to all the work that needs doing . Posted by Lawrence Chin. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Getting people to think long-term about art and heritage.

Conservation News: Paper Through Time - University of Iowa
http://conservation-studio-3.blogspot.com/2012/01/paper-through-time-university-of-iowa.html
Monday, January 23, 2012. Paper Through Time - University of Iowa. A very comprehensive and interesting research project looking at the chemical make-up and properties of historical European papers from 14th to 19th centuries. See the web-site for more -. The primary conclusion seems to be that the higher concentration of gelatin and calcium used in earlier paper-making seems to afford better long-term protection of historical papers. For a summary of the project, see the press release posted on.

Conservation News: When Data Disappears
http://conservation-studio-3.blogspot.com/2011/08/when-data-disappears.html
Monday, August 8, 2011. From The New York Times. An interesting article which challenges the idea and approach of most preservation efforts as an after-thought, which is showing up the inherent inadequacies of traditional preservation thinking in the realm of "digital preservation". In fact, the writer, Kari Kraus, is advocating that:. We must replace digital preservation with digital curation.". Posted by Lawrence Chin. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Research: Building A Cost-Effective Portable Infra-Red Imaging Camera
http://conservation-studio-2.blogspot.com/2011/06/building-cost-effective-portable-infra.html
Monday, June 13, 2011. Building A Cost-Effective Portable Infra-Red Imaging Camera. The use of technical examination is now considered an integral part of conservation treatment process. However, the availability of equipment has always been limited to institutions or organisations with substantial resources. With the recent advances made in consumer electronics, it is now possible to use off-the-shelf components to achieve basic results which otherwise would need deep pockets. Posted by Lawrence Chin.

Research: Breaking Meanings and Sustaining Disagreements
http://conservation-studio-2.blogspot.com/2011/06/breaking-meanings-and-sustaining.html
Monday, June 13, 2011. Breaking Meanings and Sustaining Disagreements. It is an obvious trend to observers that the conservation of contemporary art has become increasingly complex over the years. There is also an attendant awareness that traditional models of decision-making can sometimes be of a hindrance, even with the best of intentions. Symposium held at the Tropenmuseum (Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam), 9 - 11 June 2010. For more information on the symposium, click here. Poster (PDF; 567 KB).
