About this runner…. Why do I go to parkrun? Eve of 100th run. October 14, 2016. A family of milestone t shirts! This Saturday will be my 100. One of those was at Dalby Forest, 99 of them at Sewerby. I ran my first parkrun on 9. June 2012. I completed 6 runs in 2012, 4 in 2013, 8 in 2014, 43 in 2015 and 38 so far in 2016. I’ve also volunteered 6 times. As you can see the first three years I was not a regular! But why do I go pretty much every single week now? And as one pointed out ‘not such a long shot’.

From couch to 5k and then…. July 25, 2015. Today is parkrun day, but instead of doing my usual marshalling duties, I decided to run instead… well, run/walk at least. It has been a while since I’ve done a 5K, so I decided to use a 3:1 run/walk ratio in the knowledge that I’d probably have to adjust it at some point during the run. It was going to be slow, but I didn’t mind and figured that I’d be happy if I could complete the course in under 35 minutes. How’s your running going? Did you do parkrun today?

As I won’t be running 5K again for a while, I’ve signed up for marshalling duty for the next few weeks, which is always good fun. After last week’s inaugural run on Hove Promenade, today was a bit quieter with 164 runners compared to last week’s 294. As for my own running, well, that’s another story. A blog about fitness, weight loss and the like. Page 2 of 5. So near but so far. July 11, 2016. July 11, 2016. Yesterday was Leeds 10K. The race that I measure myself against. I wanted a time. I wanted to be sub one hour. Slow for some perhaps, but fast for me. I started well. Checking the Garmin, I was on track until about 4K. And then I could see it start to slip away from me. By the 7K mark, it was over. Only you keep on running all the same. One hour, one minute and 53 seconds. In running and in life.

Time Spent: 5 days, 17 hours, 21 mins, 28 secs. Number of runs: 193 (3 more than last year). Parkruns: 50 (48 Sewerby, 1 Dalby Forest, 1 Hull). I’ve struggled a bit in 2016, with mild injury and health issues but what have been the positives from the year? Being part of the running community. Running with Ben Smith of the 401 Challenge.
