Writing Revised: October 2009
http://writingrevised.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Thoughts on writing and culture. Monday, October 26, 2009. The Importance of Truth. How important is the truth? It's extremely important. I could make excuses for not having blogged in a while, but I think the truth is best, no matter how it makes me look. Several people I know are gearing up for Nano. How can I write fifty thousand words when I'm trying to get these five thousand words to work and flow? So if anyone has an idea or suggestion, I would gladly hear it. Tuesday, October 6, 2009. I don't thi...

Writing Revised: September 2009
http://writingrevised.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Thoughts on writing and culture. Saturday, September 26, 2009. I was talking with my mother the other day and made a reference to my being southern. She asked me how could I be southern when I wasn't born anywhere near the south and hadn't grown up there? Culture isn't so much the place you've grown up in, but more the environment. My father yelled (hollered) out the back door, "Stephanie, quit chunkin' that ball upside that wall." Now I grew up with the man and I was about nine at the time, but I ha...

Writing Revised: February 2010
http://writingrevised.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Thoughts on writing and culture. Saturday, February 27, 2010. I have a new idea for another book that could turn into a series. Again, I'm working on a project that takes me back through history. What's up with that? At least this time it's not ancient history, only about 300-400 years instead of 3000. The research is great. I'm learning things that give me insight into my life today. Looking at the culture of then explains some of my culture now. This is so fascinating! Monday, February 15, 2010. Today ...

Pile of Sand: June 2009
http://csonberglarson.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 6, 2009. I've decided the 1st draft of KIT will be done on 7/31/09! That was the date I set for LURE I last year, and I finished within a week of that, so I may as well make the end of July my deadline date again. So far the story is going through the usual "what the hell happens next" stage. Sooo, Let's see what KIT turns out to be. Monday, June 1, 2009. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). LURE: by C. Sonberg Larson- First Place Middle Grade Fiction-SCBWI 2009 Spring Retreat. I am a middle grade/...

Writing Revised: The Gaps in Life
http://writingrevised.blogspot.com/2010/02/gaps-in-life.html
Thoughts on writing and culture. Monday, February 15, 2010. The Gaps in Life. Yesterday I was sitting in one of the critique groups a belong to. We were discussing the differences in age related thought. It struck me as funny that each of us belong to several different groups, those formed by age, economics, or profession. Then there a the separators of region, politics, and faith. I have to remember to keep all of this in mind to create rich characters. The guys become more masculine and cool (they don'...

Pile of Sand: November 2010
http://csonberglarson.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 29, 2010. With a little over two days to spare I passed the 50,000 word mark yesterday. Still have the ending scenes to flesh out, but I'm almost there. Wow, Others is almost done and it's a month sooner than my original deadline. Cool beans! Labels: Keeping the dream alive. Thursday, November 11, 2010. Ten days 20,000 words. After ten days I've written 20, 047 words. Awesome! This has turned out to be a good move. So glad I signed up. Just hope I can keep up the pace. Dogs are the best!

Writing Revised: June 2009
http://writingrevised.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Thoughts on writing and culture. Sunday, June 28, 2009. Here's a new question. How do you represent yourself, your culture, in your writing when you're different than the majority culture? How do you create the bridge from your culture to others? I guess that's really two questions. As an author of color I often find myself in a difficult place. Do I write to my community or do I write more globally? The answer then, lies in finding metacultural anchors. The greatest metacultural anchor is emotion...

Writing Revised: August 2009
http://writingrevised.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Thoughts on writing and culture. Monday, August 31, 2009. Strong Women Make for Strong Characters. What does this have to do with writing? I have an unquenchable desire to write stories that captivate. Stories that encourage. Stories that change lives. Everyday my writing improves and grows. The strength of my culture helps me to write strong characters. Characters with depth. Characters with drive. Characters with voice. (yes, the ever elusive, but necessary, quality). Friday, August 21, 2009. I had the...
