When processing flax, most of it becomes tow flax - the shorter fibers that stay behind in the hackles when hackling the flax. So you have a lot of this shorter stuff, much of which is quite nice. Below you can see the materials and the resultant swatch (click on the pictures to see them larger):. Tow flax, cotton, ramie, and the blend in a knitted swatch. Anyway,...

Heartsease Hollow: October 2010
http://heartsease-hollow.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 7, 2010. Magickal Sky Shots at the Lake. We took off for a weekend camping trip to the lake a few days ago. I think my husband and I were very much in need of some down time. A good time was had by all and the weather was absolutely gorgeous! It was warm but not hot and the sky was just the most magickal color. The cloud patterns were amazing. Check out these pics:. Urban Permaculture: Bokashi Composting
http://urban-permaculture.blogspot.com/2008/06/bokashi-composting.html
Monday, June 9, 2008. Bokashi (Japanese for "fermented organic matter") is a method of intensive composting. It can use an aerobic or anaerobic inoculation to produce the compost. Once a starter culture is made, it can be re-used, like yogurt culture. Since the popular introduction of effective microorganisms (EM), Bokashi is commonly made with only molasses, water, EM, and wheat bran. However, Bokashi can be made by inoculating any organic matter with a variety of hosts of beneficial bacteria/microbes.

Urban Permaculture: 100 Mile Diet: Local Eating for Global Change
http://urban-permaculture.blogspot.com/2008/12/100-mile-diet-local-eating-for-global.html
Monday, December 1, 2008. 100 Mile Diet: Local Eating for Global Change. There is some logic in eating only food that's locally raised and produced in a radius of 100 Mile. Of course, in a heavy urbanized setting you'll have to be creative! In 2005, Alisa Smith and J.B. MacKinnon began a one-year experiment in local eating. Their 100-Mile Diet struck a deeper chord than anyone could have predicted, inspiring thousands of individuals, and even whole communities, to change the way they eat. Masanobu Fukuok...

Urban Permaculture: HOME project
http://urban-permaculture.blogspot.com/2009/06/home-project.html
Wednesday, June 24, 2009. There still time to serve and protect Gaia! HOME is an ode to the planet's beauty and its delicate harmony. Through the landscapes of 54 countries captured from above, Yann Arthus-Bertrand takes us on an unique journey all around the planet, to contemplate it and to understand it. But HOME is more than a documentary with a message, it is a magnificent movie in its own right. Every breathtaking shot shows the Earth - our Earth - as we have never seen it before. There is some logi...

Urban Permaculture
http://urban-permaculture.blogspot.com/2009/06/image-is-circus-performer-twirling.html
Friday, June 26, 2009. The image is the circus performer twirling plates on sticks, except in the circus those plates are sometimes attached to the sticks and their precarious balance is an illusion. Sometimes, though, the plates are really being balanced on the ends of the sticks. Do you ever feel like you're watching a bad movie about the collapse of civilization, while doing your best to hold visions of viability and creative possibility? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). http://herbwyfe.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Blessings of an Herbwyfe. Growing in the Green. Thursday, June 26, 2008. Healing with Women and Nature part 2. So the last night in Minnesota, I was invited to a party of women doing a talent show. There I met 2 cancer survivors who beat the odds, which at the time was so encouraging to me. I met actresses, moms, dancers, and other women having a great time. Some yummy food, organic beer and local wine and I was having the time of my life in the energy of strangers, yet sisters. Growing in the Green.

naturewitch: I Love Soapnuts!
http://naturewitch.blogspot.com/2009/09/i-love-soapnuts.html
Saturday, 5 September 2009. After seeing Molly's post on soapnuts. I decided to buy some - I got mine from Eaternal. The service was terrific and the soapnuts arrived in a couple of days after ordering. Today I did my first big wash with the soapnuts and they are absolutely fabulous! Everything came out clean and bright and the wash water went out on to the garden. I did my usual trick of saving and re-using the "suds", which further reduced the amount of water needed. Talking to my neighbour this mornin...
