Goodbye users and suckers, and steady bad-luckers." -Silver Jews. Tuesday, April 20, 2004. Zen lessons, pt. 1. Transcribing, transcribing, and more- what? You're right. I can't fool you. Sunday morning and then that night, because I worked at el store in the middle of the day, there, I spent transcribing these interviews and such I'd done on Saturday for a story for Small Publication. That was fine. Time-consuming, but fine. Conservation effort. You've got to.". But although I'm glad to be giving Cingula...

Goodbye users and suckers, and steady bad-luckers." -Silver Jews. Sunday, March 28, 2004. I am in a silly. Good mood this morning. That's usually how it goes- On sunny weekend mornings, aided by a few gallons of coffee and good music, I feel as if the world is mine.all mine. As he swept and I did dishes, I felt clever for correctly guessing lyrics. Here, let's give you a try:. I wanna be a star/. Every night down at the ". The one sniffing every single incense stick! Goodbye users and suckers, and steady bad-luckers." -Silver Jews. Wednesday, September 22, 2004. Requisite Statement to Criminal Records. We had a deal: You don’t look up at me or say anything as you ring up my cds. I give you money. Hey, I didn’t set this standard; I only agreed to it. And so when I brought my purchase up to the counter this time, it seemed we were going by protocal. Your subsequent Fourteen-ninety-nine, then, came with a sneer. I used to work at Waldenbooks, where we had to try. Okay M...

Goodbye users and suckers, and steady bad-luckers." -Silver Jews. Tuesday, May 25, 2004. Okay That's two 1984. References in two days. What's with that? I probably just need to read more true literature. Sigh. Right now, I'm in the middle of Sarah Vowell's The Partly Cloudy Patriot. Really, really good book of essays, and I'm not commenting on its claim-or-lack-thereof to greatness here. But Sarah Vowell herself, besides being my hero and all, is also hella-smart. Question: If one read Hollywood Wives.

Goodbye users and suckers, and steady bad-luckers." -Silver Jews. Tuesday, July 27, 2004. All I Ever Wanted. There’s no concentration at work, today. Not that I’m writing this at work. I’m going on vacation this week. A much-deserved, so- very. My knees and elbows will creak a little at first as I hike through the woods of New Hampshire, but I’ll explain to my companions that I’ve been living rusty-ol’-tin-woodsman style for the last six months, and then they’ll understand and pass me the oil can. I star...

Goodbye users and suckers, and steady bad-luckers." -Silver Jews. Thursday, June 24, 2004. So, it’s lunchtime. You’re at work and you haven’t brought anything to eat. So you think, "I won’t go to the grocery store and buy canned soup, no. I’ll treat. Myself and go to Einstein’s for a sandwich No, a salad.". Because you always seem to remember them having good salads. Is that worth it to you? For the umpteenth time. Salads at Einsteins are just not worth it. Posted by Alice at 5:52 AM. Goodbye users and suckers, and steady bad-luckers." -Silver Jews. Saturday, August 28, 2004. We have an intern at Small Publication for a couple months from Japan. She’s a few years younger than me and her real interest interest is actually to work in television someday. But even though I wonder if she’s learning anything productive from us other than she doesn’t want to do what we do - she’s amazingly nice and ridiculously accommodating. And then we go out for coffee together. Want to go to Buckhead.
