through our eyes: Three more grads!
http://carmenpampa.blogspot.com/2012/08/three-more-grads.html
The College through the eyes of its Director General. Wednesday, August 01, 2012. Last week the College graduated three more students - two from our little community of Carmen Pampa, and one from around the corner. Juan Ortega researched the incidence of parasites in elementary school students in his home community of Nogalani, on the other side of Uchumachi mountain. He discovered that 100% of the students had at least one parasite (most commonly the roundworm Ascaris lumbricoides. Photo: Julio, flanked...

Friday, March 20, 2009. Some volunteers and I with a few of the girls from the PRE. Note the girl who brought a stuffed animal for the pic. Before the semester started, around 200 kids came and took an entrance exam, none passed but the 85 highest scores were accepted to the “PRE”. After the successful completion of the pre-curriculum they will all move into one of the other 5 “carreras” Veterinary, Agronomy, Nursing, Teaching, or Eco-Tourism. Anyway just like Nate they are very loveable. In this time of...

Carmen Pampa Diary: April 2009
http://bolivia-andy.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 21, 2009. The interesting thing about religion here is how it has mixed and coexists with pre-Columbian beliefs. It’s not just at festivals. Miners give alcohol, coca, and even blood to ensure safety and good luck. They might say Hail Maries on their way to work, but the respects they pay to Catholic figures are nowhere near as institutionalized or ingrained into their culture as the rituals they perform for more archaic deities. How's this last pic grab you for interesting cultural Confli...

http://bolivia-andy.blogspot.com/2009/04/this-coke-truck-got-jammed-up-against.html
Friday, April 3, 2009. This Coke truck got jammed up against the wall outside our neighbors (the sisters) house. They left it overnight in the road, a little off to the side and during the night it slid in the mud. They have spent a couple days trying to dig it out, at some point they will probably have to call someone to pull it out. On a positive note USAID put in a great sidewalk between Coroico and Carmen Pampa, now it’s really a pleasure to walk into town. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Carmen Pampa Diary: October 2008
http://bolivia-andy.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 25, 2008. My posts have been few and far between. I’ll work on that as long as there are a few of you reading them. One of my friends and students Viviana danced, she let me borrow her hat for this last pic. Take care, vote early and vote often. Thursday, October 16, 2008. The following picture speaks for itself. One flush is rarely enough. Even though I’m sure that all the street vendors hide stool softeners in their food. Sunday, October 5, 2008. Below is a picture of the carerra I wo...

Belize is where I am for the next several weeks putting my permaculture skills into practice. Coconut palm being planted with mulch below. Well, you have to weed them out so others survive. What an adventure. Next I’ll share with you a place I visited while here. Xinatunich, what an amazing Mayan complex!
