Saturday, January 16, 2010. Starring Keri Russell a few years back. Her character made pies as therapy. a way of dealing with her circumstances. She channeled all her frustrations, stress, anger and ultimately love and happiness into her pies. I too use it as a form of therapy. In fact all of cooking is therapeutic. Anyway, it's a great film and I highly recommend it. A great film to eat pie by too. The bottom crust. See the butter chunks? That's a good thing. Roll out the top crust. This is the part...

Thursday, February 4, 2010. NYC is known for having everything. Everything except for decent ramen. For years, friends and I would say to each other " Why aren't there any decent or ANY ramen restaurants for that matter in NYC? There was one place and it was not very good at all. It fact it sucked. I was embarrassed that my city didn't have a passable ramen restaurant and had ramen shame. It needn't be fancy but it had to have soul and depth. A hard thing to achieve. My good friend Erik. My ramen was pre...

Sunday, December 19, 2010. In July, I took my parents on trip to Hokkaido (the most northern island in Japan) to celebrate their 80th birthdays. Here are some eating highlights. Gotta have my security. Lunch at Haneda. So good! Mini eggplant tsukemono - Asahikawa. One of the best ramen I've ever had. Now this...

Wednesday, January 20, 2010. I need my kinako mochi fix. I try to eat this every year. Partly for luck (as is Japanese custom), partly the earthiness of it's flavor and texture but I think most because it conjures up warm memories when I felt safe and secure. (Sorry for being so maudlin.). The other week, I bought packaged mochi from Sunrise Mart. In the East Village and kinda forgot about it. Until last night. It still satisfied me but it wasn't as good as when Mom makes it. Thanks Mom. Http:/ mmm-yoso&...

http://d-lish-us.blogspot.com/2010/12/sanuki-no-sato-sake-sushi.html
Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Sanuki No Sato and Sakae Sushi. Today we met some beloved family friends and had lunch at Sanuki No Sato. They are known for their udon, soba and donburi. Had a great time catching up, having a few laughs and enjoying Sanuki's food. After our annual trek to Marukai to purchase New Year's foods we picked up some Sakae Sushi in Gardena. Nothing beats it. I had the Kakiage-don Combo (Hot Udon with Kakiage tempura donburi). Troy, Pachi, Tak, Mom, Dad and Gayle. Love the menu board.
