Exploring the medieval European pilgrim roads. The Test of Wisdom: A Modern Pilgrimage. Gargilesse to Eguzon: October 3rd. Bad Salzig to St. Goar, August 9th. August 11, 2014. I have, however, been doing lots of day hikes closer to home, and last weekend a friend and I decided to check out the Rheinburgenweg. When we got there in the morning I was totally excited to see Jakobsmuschel signs everywhere! Turns out the Rheinburgenweg and the Jakobsweg join forces on the Rhein, so, awesome! The climbs are ext...

Exploring the medieval European pilgrim roads. The Test of Wisdom: A Modern Pilgrimage. Mars sur Allier to Lurcy-Levis: September 24th. Decided to do a bit more than planned this morning and scrapped Saint-Pierre to head straight for Lurcy-Levis instead. After 12 k of flat farmland I finally hit the river Allier at around 11 and crossed over to Le Veudre for a needed break. After a cold beer at the hotel, tourist info got me sorted hotel- wise for tomorrow, and I paid a visit to the Romanic church. Just ...

Chateaumeillant to La Chatre: September 29th. September 30, 2013. Headed out early and was in a pretty serious mood. I mean I was really not into walking at all. And then this happened:. Ever get the feeling you're being watched? This one is mid-stalking. I mean, LOOK. La Chatre is epic. You get the full medieval vil...

Lurcy-Levis to Ainay-le-Château: September 25th. September 26, 2013. After about 10 k I hit Valigny, where I had a coffee at the most unfriendly cafe ever. Seriously. About two k outside of Ainay, I was fanning myself under a tree by the roadside when a lady and her son pulled over and was all “it’s go...Address n...

La Chatre to Neuvy St Sepulchre: September 30th. October 1, 2013. Some time over night summer turned into autumn. The air is fresh and smells like fall, and some leaves have even started turning. When the zombie apocalypse happens, this house will be my fortress. After a pleasant walk I got to Neuvy at about 13:30 checked into th...

Young Jen in Spats. More May Garden Recipes: a Cocktail, a Salsa, and a Cheese. I’ve been on a total cooking spree these last few days. The weather’s been bad and trying out new things from the garden totally saves my mood🙂. First things first, Booze. I want to give this a cool name, but I’m terrible at naming things. Hanging Garden, maybe? Anyhow, it’s simple to make and tastes like spring and happiness. Finally, today I made paneer cheese with hyssop, rose petals and lemon thyme! Bring the milk to a b...

Just another WordPress.com site. September 3, 2016. Starting to dip towards something more comfortable for a Scot from the West. C At least you won’t have to worry about that this year, May. Up along the Icefields Parkway, on the way to Jasper, the glaciers are visible year-round, but I prefer to see these colossal walls of ice when their mountains are swaddled in snow. So, in reality, it’s probably about six weeks or so until we’ll see snow. In the meantime, I have to content myself with...July 1, 2016.

Just another WordPress.com site. Larr; The Icefields Parkway – Frozen Beauty. Winter is coming – Walking in the Rockies in snow. The lonely spaces, and why I seek them out. November 10, 2015. I like to be outdoors as often as I can. While it can be very relaxing to sit with a book and while away a day or two, there is always something to be said for getting outdoors and feeling the wind, rain or sun on your face. Just another WordPress.com site. Larr; Nihahi Ridge. The Icefields Parkway – Frozen Beauty. February 12, 2016. Christmas Day was beautiful this year in Alberta. Clear blue sky, cold, but the snow was glinting on the mountains on the western horizon, and I had itchy feet. It wasn’t the happiest of days for me, for a couple of reasons, and the prospect of a long drive looked likely to help blow the cobwebs away. Foothills of the Rockies, from the Bow Valley. Starting to run out of road…. At least once thro...

Jake the Travelling Puppy. I go hiking in the middle of France. December 7, 2013. At the end of September your aunt and I went on a hiking trip through a part of France called Berry. Can you find where that is on a map? Sorry I’m so late in posting but Aunt Jennifer was busy and wouldn’t let me use her computer. We saw many interesting places and learned a lot on our trip! Our first stop was a city called Nevers. Nevers was built on a famous river called the Loire. Have you heard of it? August 24, 2013.

Dr Bennett I presume? Barry Bennett, above, is modelling the kind of gear you should be wearing. Don’t be deceived by the grin, it was bitterly cold, halfway up one of the mountains beside Lake Louise. Without gear, your situation would become dire rapidly, with frostbite and worse on the cards. Just another WordPress.com site. Larr; Dreaming of snow. July 1, 2016. Nihahi Ridge area map (courtesy of Google Maps). Today proved to be a lesson in mountain weather, and just how rapidly things can change for the worse. The start of our walk was in brilliant sunshine, though driving west, we had seen showers trailing beneath clouds in the distance. In such hot weather, heat-stroke is a risk, and adequate water should always be carried. Sun-block is essential too, and insect repellent. Looking out to t...

The Test of the Cross | Choosing Jesus Over Everything Else
The Test of the Cross. Choosing Jesus Over Everything Else. Written by: Phil Shobo. We’ve all done it. Admit it. Probably did at one point or another today. I know I did. The weather. The wait time to be serviced for food. Lack of funds to achieve goals or desires. Our issues with one another. The list goes on and on. 9 times out of 10 we don’t realize the futility of what we’re complaining about until after the fact. It’s not until something is brought to our attention do we think boy,. I had the pleasu...
