Textiles and Music Interact. Fifteen Images (Le Jardin Pluvieux). Gifts from the Ebb Tide. Monthly Archives: March 2012. March 24, 2012. It’s one thing to write generally about texture in contemporary art music, quite another to describe it as a factor in a composer’s music, particularly a composer like myself. For most of my career I’ve chosen not to regard texture as a particular feature of significance in the music I compose. It’s there of course: no music can exist without some measure of it. By the ...

Alice Fox Textiles: tea and rust
http://alicefox-textiles.blogspot.com/2012/06/tea-and-rust.html
Thursday, 14 June 2012. I've been using tea as part of my rust print process without really realizing its significance. My first experiments used tea to wet my paper because I liked the colour and the tide marks it left when drying. It is only more recently that I've understood that the tea is playing a significant part in producing the results I'm getting. Tea has tannic acid in it and this reacts with rust. I found someone. During conversations at the Open Studio. Labels: Bradford Open for Art. Its alm...

Alice Fox Textiles: September 2011
http://alicefox-textiles.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, 29 September 2011. I'm revisiting some of the work I did in semester one last year at college. This work was all based around beachcombing trips and the different types of items I collected. It involved classifying and grouping the different objects and making assemblages with them in different ways. The interplay of natural and man-made was a key theme. Saturday, 24 September 2011. It feels like I've been flitting between lots of different things all week. Saturday, 17 September 2011. The wool...

Alice Fox Textiles: January 2012
http://alicefox-textiles.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Friday, 27 January 2012. A trip to my parents last weekend allowed for some garden pottering, finding interesting shapes in the winter sunshine,. And winter sweet, which doesn't look like much (although is better seen from below like this rather than from above the drooping flowers) but smells amazing. Saturday, 21 January 2012. A session in the print room made sense. I made two screens, one based on the silhouettes of items found beach combing. A year or so ago. I purposefully made the text pretty small...

An Exploration of the Senses. Monday, 17 August 2015. The first garment I constructed was a blue linen top that I have made before and is a modified pattern from the book Bold and Beautiful- Easy Sew clothes . It is such an easy pattern and very loose and cool to wear. I like to wear this top over linen trousers or jeans and dress it up with a scarf or colourful jewellery. The pattern was a PDF download which I narrowed slightly and straightened the bottom hem. Friday, 31 July 2015. Hexagon Bug - 8.

Of Textiles and Tetrads. What does it Enhance, Retrieve, Reverse, and Obsolesce? November 26, 2012. How does one accomplish a dozen goals at once? The short answer is, you can’t. In fact, the best anyone can do when faced with an abundance of possibilities is make choices and set priorities. In the end, important things will be marginalized and even left out completely.
