Teaching Togo: November 2010

http://teachingtogo.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 29, 2010. We read a folktale from Western Africa. The main character was Anansi the spider, a very popular character in African folklore. Are there storytellers in Togo? Do they tell stories of Anansi too? We researched endangered species. We learned about elephants being killed for their ivory tusks. Laws that protect these animals against poachers are helping, but they are still at risk. Are there other endangered species in Togo? Have you seen an elephant? Saturday, November 27, 2010.

Teaching Togo: October 2010

http://teachingtogo.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 21, 2010. We are third graders in Mrs. Shields' class in Westlake, OH. It is the season of fall here which means that Westlake is full of beautiful colors as the leaves change. The weather is getting cooler and we are now wearing jackets and long pants. We are getting ready for the celebration of Halloween. We will disguise ourselves in costumes and trick or treat for candy! What season of the year is it in Togo? Are there any holidays during this season? We hope to hear from you soon!

Adventures in Togoland: A funny thing happened on the way to Tsinigan

http://adventuresintogoland.blogspot.com/2010/11/funny-thing-happened-on-way-to-tsinigan.html

La vie est toujours comme ça. Saturday, November 27, 2010. A funny thing happened on the way to Tsinigan. A collection of amusing things that have happened in my first 6 months in Togo:. On a recent bush taxi ride, we pulled over to remove the back row of seats and toss in a hog-tied cow. From the stench emanating from the back seat, I can only imagine that the Fulani man taking the cow to Lome was also planning on selling several kilos of manure. As part of the voodoo demonstration, the priests got a ho...

La vie est toujours comme ça. Sunday, November 7, 2010. Take It Back Now Y'all. The Peace Corps has three goals: 1) Technical support - I teach health things. 2) Teaching Togolese people about Amerika - Football: Its like rugby but totally different. 3) Teaching Americans about Togo - this blog and/or wikipedia. The third goal is one of the top three most important goals in Peace Corps history(! We all enjoy geography, trick-or-treating and dodgeball! Anyways, Mrs. Shields has set up a blog for the k...

Teaching to Give | Dedicating a year (and hopefully beyond) to teaching my children to live a life of giving.

Dedicating a year (and hopefully beyond) to teaching my children to live a life of giving. The Most Hectic Time of the Year? November 2, 2013. October has finally come to an end. Sheesh – October is without a doubt the busiest month of the year at our house! Between coaching both kids’ soccer teams, the fall festivals, the birthday parties, and Halloween, it was definitely a challenge to fit in service this month. We did it, but I can’t say that I have anything glamorous to post. September 11, 2013.
