The Menu: August 2006
http://themenu.yeedesign.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
My cooking notes and observations. Tuesday, August 29, 2006. This is another fallback meal. (Notice the theme - throw this spice rub on anything and it will taste great.). Fresh corn and tomatoes added a nice combination of sweetness and crunch. I threw in the oranges for some extra brightness. Salad: mixed greens, oranges, tomatoes, corn, citrus vinaigrette (olive oil, lime juice, orange juice, sugar, garlic, salt). chicken: chile spice rub, lime juice, olive oil)]. The Menu: October 2006
http://themenu.yeedesign.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
My cooking notes and observations. Tuesday, October 31, 2006. L called today and asked if we were free tonight since she was roasting an 8lb. pork shoulder. Even if we weren't free, I think we would have cancelled any plans in order to enjoy this amazing meal. Since L made the pork, I have no notes except to say that it was exceptionally tasty, especially with the mojo sauce that she made to go with it. (The mojo sauce was appropriately tinged blue,. Carrots, zucchini, onions, garlic, chili powder, salt].

The Menu: November 2006
http://themenu.yeedesign.com/2006_11_01_archive.html
My cooking notes and observations. Thursday, November 30, 2006. It took a while, but we finally got around to eating up our leftover turkey. Spinach and turkey pot pie. I didn't really have a recipe to go by, I just improvised. We're trying to eat lighter, so the bechamel sauce is really made with lowfat milk. There's still a substantial amount of butter, though. The biscuit topping is courtesy of Knott's Berry Farm biscuit mix. It's actually very good. Posted by sue at 8:00 PM. Hamachi in various shapes.

The Menu: July 2006

My cooking notes and observations. Monday, July 31, 2006. Polenta crisps, take i. This is part of a light summer dinner menu I have planned, but I thought I'd do a test run of these first. Polenta crisps with smoked salmon and crème fraîche. I'm having a little trouble with presentation the crème fraîche melts on the hot polenta crisps and the salmon rosettes tend to tip over. I may have to rethink the structure. But as a combination, it's quite nice. Posted by sue at 7:00 PM. Sunday, July 30, 2006.

The Menu: December 2005
http://themenu.yeedesign.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
My cooking notes and observations. Wednesday, December 28, 2005. L, M and I decided that it would be worthy adventure to make a turducken. You can see pictures of the process below. We got together the night before to prep the beast, and then I woke up at 5 the next morning to pop it into the oven. Unfortunately, turducken mostly tastes like turkey, but I'll have to say that the stuffings were pretty awesome. I think if I were to do it again (highly unlikely), I'd brine the turkey first.

The Menu: February 2007
http://themenu.yeedesign.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
My cooking notes and observations. Monday, February 26, 2007. Published this recipe in January 2006, and it took me a year to get around to trying it. I'll have to say, my results were not quite as brilliant as I'm sure theirs were, but I think this is an experiment worth working at. From Cook's Illustrated, January 2006. 6 tablespoons mustard (yellow). 3 medium cloves garlic , minced or pressed through garlic press (about 1 tablespoon). 2 teaspoons ground black pepper. 1 tablespoon sweet paprika. 1 FOR ...

My cooking notes and observations. Tuesday, January 16, 2007. Pantry ingredients to the rescue. This is a pretty simple pasta made with canned tomatoes, Italian sausage, mushrooms, and garlic. I had defrosted the sausages and needed to eat them up. I also happened to have some fresh basil left in the fridge, so it all came together quite nicely. Spaghetti, Italian sausages, canned tomatoes, mushrooms, red wine, garlic, thyme, basil, salt, red pepper, Parmesan cheese]. Posted by sue at 8:30 PM. So I thoug...

The Menu: September 2006
http://themenu.yeedesign.com/2006_09_01_archive.html
My cooking notes and observations. Tuesday, September 26, 2006. Unagi and avocado are a marriage made in heaven. Still eating sushi rice from the hamachi dinner. Obviously I made way too much rice. Good thing we had some unagi in the freezer. This should be a freezer staple, it's saved us many a night from having to cook more than a pot of rice. Sushi rice, unagi, avocado, cucumber, mayonnaise, wasabi, soy sauce]. Posted by sue at 6:15 PM. D's mom gave us a LOT of Top Ramen. Posted by sue at 2:00 PM.

The Menu: March 2007
http://themenu.yeedesign.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
My cooking notes and observations. Monday, March 26, 2007. Guest chef series #3: beef stew. Alhambra R&D invited us over (well, we kind of crashed an existing party) and a good time was had by all. Rich, melty beef with lots of gravy leads to overeating. It was so good. We turned down their offer to give us leftovers, but regretted it the next day. Posted by sue at 8:00 PM.
