No Middle Initial: What are you doing?
http://ccmarshall.blogspot.com/2009/09/what-are-you-doing.html
Saturday, September 12, 2009. What are you doing? By now we’ve all heard just. A little too much. Questionable wisdom, breaking news, hot gossip, and vicious rumors are served up continuously in easy-to-swallow 140 character doses. What is Andy Dick doing. What does Anderson Cooper think? What did Oprah eat? And where’s my remote control? Let’s chalk up the phenomenon to the death of the global attention span. Time to click on the x, close the application, and go on home. It’s really not all that. Then s...

event-loop / run-loop library for Ruby?: ruby_lang
http://ruby-lang.livejournal.com/10836.html
Event-loop / run-loop library for Ruby? I'm finally doing some more Ruby programming. Some of it's with Rails, but right now I'm prototyping a type of server. In implementing this, I'm really missing the "RunLoop" facility of Mac OS X. I'm sure this also exists in Windows and Linux it's an abstract event loop that a thread runs. Most of your code is written as handlers for events, and there are ways to post events to threads. Is there an implementation of this for Ruby? Post a new comment.

preventing variables from being marshaled: ruby_lang
http://ruby-lang.livejournal.com/11069.html
Preventing variables from being marshaled. I'm using PStore (which uses Marshal) as a quick-n-dirty way to store my app's persistent state. It worked great until I added a Socket instance variable to one of my classes. Sockets can't be marshaled (of course) so now I get an exception. Does it get written twice, and (worse) read back in as two separate objects? In my case that would really screw up my app. What I really want is Java's "transient" attribute. Post a new comment. We will log you in after post.

If you want bots to cache, make the resources cacheable! If you want bots to cache, make the resources cacheable! Aug 30th, 2007 08:07 pm. LiveJournal's bot policy page says:. You are encouraged to cache the results of your bot's requests, which saves us bandwidth and CPU time. Bots making repeated requests on the same resource (URL) in a short amount of time will be blocked.". Clearly a custom application can cache the data however it wants. But it would be a lot more convenient if we could take adv...
