1624年，荷人治台，其中瓦布蘭(又叫華武)行政區，即今日之彰化地區。1661年，鄭成功入台，設置一府二縣，本鄉隸屬天興縣。後改為天興州。 1684年清治重劃行政區域，天興州改為諸羅縣，本鄉時諸羅縣轄區。1723年，分諸羅縣北半線地置彰化縣屬台灣府。1762年，彰化縣半縣堡改稱半線東西堡。 1875年半線東西堡，改稱線東和線西兩堡。本鄉屬台灣台灣府彰化線西堡，到了1887年台灣建省，本鄉仍屬台灣彰化縣西堡. 1895年彰化地區隸屬臺灣民政支部彰化出張所。本鄉劃入臺中縣鹿港支廳線西堡。後增置彰化支廳，本鄉改隸彰化支廳線西堡。1897年，本鄉劃歸臺中縣和美線辦務署。1901年，本鄉劃屬彰化廳鹿港支廳線西堡。1909年，本鄉改屬臺中廳彰化支廳新港區，1920年，併臺灣西部廳為九州。本鄉劃屬臺中州彰化郡線西庄。 成立，本鄉改歸彰化縣管轄。1950年本鄉從線西鄉分出，定名為新港鄉。1959年，因與嘉義縣的新港鄉同名，容易混淆，更名為「 伸港鄉. 12301;，並沿用至今。 訂閱： 文章 (Atom).
