White House Champions of Change Event. December 1, 2012. Sina standing on the stage at the Champions of Change event at the White House. I was incredibly humbled and honored to be recognized as a White House Champion of Change. Earlier this year. NC State kindly published an article about it on the Department of Computer Science website. I really enjoyed being on the second of two panel discussions held at the White house in May. The video of both panel discussions. Pursuing a Future for STEM Equality.

Explaining The Fundamental Accessibility Challenge of CAPTCHA. December 6, 2014. So everybody thinks — hey, this is awesome. Right? If you’re blind, you just check the box, and you’re good to go. Right? So then you might be asking: so what’s the big deal? Where I define accessible as what I think we all associate with accessibility, for persons with different functional abilities, as well as different varieties of access, as well as where I define working as it prevents spammers. Is the Next Shift in Computer Interaction Limited to a Single Modality? January 28, 2013. This post is a response to a post made by Chris Maury entitled Is the next shift in computer interaction really gestural? First, the phrasing:. So, why choose? All Modalities Have Some Problem. So, I ask again, why choose? Let’s make this a reality today, not 20 years from now after countless iterations through many more potential interfaces of the future. The Phone That Refused to Die. October 4, 2014. I know, I haven’t blogged in forever. So, as a prize to my one remaining reader *waves to mom! I have a story. This is the tale of how my last candy bar phone, a Nokia E52, became my “last” candy bar phone. Also, more blogging soon! I mostly promise, sort of, with much fervor but less certainty). Unbeknownst to me, mid-dash, my phone had fallen out of my pocket. I come home. I put the slightly dented phone and its battery in a bag of rice, mostly becaus...

Creating Museum Multimedia for Everyone. December 2, 2012. Sina checking out a puck that can move in all four directions in a box – the puck vibrates when it is over the data point of interest. Whether it be the classical Egyptology and paleontology exhibits or the cool hands-on math/science exhibits, I’m hooked and amused for hours. I’d really love to know your thoughts and welcome any feedback on it. Sina Bahram and Keith Simmons collaborating over laptops at CMME. Hall of Human Life. What that meant f...

Stairs make the building inaccessible, not the wheelchair. Co-author of Universal Design for Web Applications. Strategist for Microsoft. @wendyabc at twitter. This conference has been a smorgasbord of possibilities for conversations and breaks–like I’m running my own unconference in the midst of this larger conference. Lots of breaks…to recharge, to integrate new knowledge, to think, to write, to meditate…and then it’s back to mind melds and hugs. March 21st, 2014 at 7:31 am. 20 Responses to 'I am'.
