Thin Man Sewing: September 2014
http://thinmansewing.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 26, 2014. Shorts for Joe and Wil. As mentioned in my last blog, I purchased an enormous amount of cabernet-red colored material at the thrift-store, It is soft, comfortable, and the right thickness for shorts and shirts. I decided to make some "lounge-shorts". Perfect for wearing around the house. Comfortable and over-sized. I used McCall's 6231 pajama pants pattern, but made the legs shorts-length. I used my Pfaff 1469 to write our names on the shorts so we wouldn't get confused. I mad...

Thin Man Sewing: March 2015
http://thinmansewing.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 17, 2015. This project and my last project will be great when it cools a little. Right now we are having record highs in the mid 70s in California. I ordered some blizzard-fleece from Joann's at a bargain price. I thought I would wait to use it, but decided I had a pattern and the time, so no time like the present. Butterick 5773 is called a jacket, but it is more like a sweater with a zipper. Can I call it a Swacket? Max supervising the cutting. I made lined pockets to put my hands in.

Thin Man Sewing: June 2015
http://thinmansewing.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 27, 2015. I finished my McCall's 8971 pants rather quickly due to the fact they have an elastic waistband and simple front pockets. The rear pocket is a welt type with a flap. I liked this for the practice. I haven't made many of these. The shirt is tucked in to show the detail. Otherwise, I wear the shirt untucked. So, no elastic dress pants for me. Time for another project. Sunday, June 21, 2015. I say this, because I started the San Francisco Stitch Co. I also started a pair of pants ye...

DollyFever: Beauty and The Beast (No, Not Dolls)
http://dollyfever.blogspot.com/2014/01/beauty-and-beast-no-not-dolls.html
All my other dolls. Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Beauty and The Beast (No, Not Dolls). Three weeks ago Husband-Like Person did some car work for a friend who was moving away. As well as paying him, the friend told him to come look in his garage because he had a lot of stuff he was not taking with him. HLP returned and said to me "You'll never believe what I got! Beauty, the Rocketeer. It was a Singer 500A sewing machine which I have been wanting for years! With its lid up. For only $6.99. Every pla...I mad...

Fashion fades, but hardware is forever | Petite Republic
https://petiterepublic.com/2010/08/04/fashion-fades-but-hardware-is-forever
Five feet and under. August 4, 2010. Fashion fades, but hardware is forever. Dear Readers, I am officially very happy with myself (and my Singer 201). After CGCouture pointed me to a much cheaper source for parts, I read up more on Singer 201 and realized I was only missing three things — bobbin cover plate, power cord, and class 66 bobbin. I bought all those from sew-classic. Plus some sewing machine oil and lube and shipping, it was only about 35 dollars! The motor works, even the light works! Instead ...

Thin Man Sewing: July 2015
http://thinmansewing.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 30, 2015. I decided to make Simplicity 1286 with some twill material I bought from Fabric.com. Also, I decided to move straight on to the final product without making a muslin. I did this because none of the reviews online mentioned sizing issues. I did add four inches to the length. This is normal for me. I have been almost following the directions. I finished the pockets with french seams, used flat-fell seams on the inside leg, and finished the fly to my liking. So, the jury is still ou...

Thin Man Sewing: February 2015
http://thinmansewing.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 26, 2015. My New Favorite Shirt Pattern. My new favorite shirt pattern is Simplicity 1544. It is a long-sleeve pattern with a separate button placket. I like shirts with this type of placket because it pops out and makes the shirt look dressy. I made no adjustments for length, which I usually add 2 inches to most patterns. This shirt is more casual though, not form fitting, but not too loose. It looks good tucked or untucked. A gross of buttons for $2.45 is quite a bargain. I bough Sim...

Thin Man Sewing: January 2015
http://thinmansewing.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Simplicity 2081/Back to 1957. I made a lightweight short-sleeve shirt from a 1957 Simplicity 2081. This shirt went together quickly. I used my White Sewmaster 611 for this shirt. The stitching on this machine is fabulous. Staright-stitch, but fabulous. The pattern comes in single sizes. This was a small. How to sew a shirt yoke. Rolled up like a burrito. A button in the back of the collar. Max likes to help. Tuesday, January 20, 2015. I like how the top fits and looks. I ...
