Vendor Everything — err.the_blog

Ldquo; Vendor Everything. March 27, 2007. Seriously. You’ll thank me later. What do I mean, exactly? Well, let’s say you’re working on a small Rails team. You decide to start using test/spec. As usual, you gem install test-spec. The plugin. You start writing specs and begin converting existing tests to specs. You’re on a tear. Nothing can stop you. Behavior is king. You commit your changes. You break the build. Well, all your new specs depend on the test-spec. Why should only our code be DRY. Let’s...

http://techgossip.blogspot.com/2005/10/reddit-vs-memeorandum-distributed-vs.html
Saturday, October 22, 2005. Reddit Vs. memeorandum (Distributed Vs Monopolistic control). I have been following reddit.com. Since I got my eyes on it (I suspect I have been one of the first 100 users of reddit). I start my day with it; be it office or home. And I am amazed every day. For the uninitiated, it is a news/articles aggregator. Basically any registered user can contribute any link to the site and the link will come up on the newest links tab. There also exists an all time favorite tab. This sit...

http://shortpath.blogspot.com/2009/01/bug-in-app-store-causes-apps-to.html
Friday, January 2, 2009. Bug in App Store Causes Apps to Disappear. A few app developers are reporting that their apps have disappeared from the App store. This happened to one of my apps, WristPop Coin Toss. And has happened to one other app that I know of, Kana. Customers attempting to purchase one of these applications were greeted with a message that the app is no longer available on the store. This happened to both of the apps mentioned above after the end of the New Year's App Blowout,. Ruby On Rai...

Short Path: Battling the Crackers is not good for your soul
http://shortpath.blogspot.com/2009/02/battling-crackers-is-not-good-for-your.html
Tuesday, February 3, 2009. Battling the Crackers is not good for your soul. Very recently a piece of software was released that will make it very easy for average Iphone users to crack applications that they have purchased from the AppStore. To varying degrees developers are in an uproar about this and are beginning to have discussions on how best to battle this outrage. I want to encourage all developers to avoid these types of punitive action. It will only end in heart ache and wasted cycles. S...Remov...

Why not provide a means of carrying out simple tasks in an application they probably already have? Tuesday, June 24, 2008. GitHub is Freaking Me Out! And it had even been updated in May of this year! Short Path: Caught in App Store Limbo
http://shortpath.blogspot.com/2009/11/caught-in-app-store-limbo.html
Sunday, November 15, 2009. Caught in App Store Limbo. A few weeks back I tweeted. About a problem I was having in the app store with one of my client's apps. The problem was that our application , BedBug Identifier. Was not showing up in the app store , although it had been approved. I checked the normal things, typos, categories, release date and everything was in order. We waited days. Finally a true hero emerged, the fine folks at Xcellent Creations.
