Shalom from Home

Friday, August 7, 2015. There are cool people everywhere. I was terrified that I was the only lazy kid who hadn't taken genetics in college, and I felt like the only person in the world on student loans. My best friends who loved me unconditionally and whom I loved unconditionally were spread far and wide across the country, and I couldn't remember how to make all new friends in an all new place. Have to look for the subtle cues. I don’t do any drugs, so I don’t know what those cues are). Almost through ...

Thursday, August 14, 2014. Welcome to Medical School. This is your education. Who do you think you're fooling? Dr Paul Shanley on "just getting by" and learning material just enough to know it for tests. So, this is what I'm going to avoid doing. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Welcome to Medical School.

Shalom from Home: October 2014

http://shalomfromhome.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 23, 2014. Learning on the Job. I'm taking it as a good sign that during the three hours I spent at the foot clinic in the homeless shelter today, I only looked at the clock once, and that was to make sure I would have time to see another patient. A E Housman (1859–1936). A Shropshire Lad. 1896. Far, from eve and morning. And yon twelve-winded sky,. The stuff of life to knit me. Blew hither: here am I. Now—for a breath I tarry. Nor yet disperse apart—. Take my hand quick and tell me,.

Shalom from Home: Live and Learn

http://shalomfromhome.blogspot.com/2014/09/live-and-learn.html

Sunday, September 7, 2014. My high school music teacher said a lot of profound things, and that's why I continued taking his classes and playing in ensembles and embarrassing myself on the music theory AP exam. But he said something that really resonates with me today, sitting here studying in the first month of my first year of medical school. Could we have designed a body that would develop perfectly and beautifully on its own? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Shalom from Home: How to s̶a̶v̶e̶ live a life

http://shalomfromhome.blogspot.com/2015/05/how-to-save-live-life.html

Sunday, May 17, 2015. How to s̶a̶v̶e̶ live a life. Almost through with a year of medical school and I wouldn't trust me with your diagnostic mysteries at this point. But here are some things I have learned along the way:. Study to LOTR soundtrack and cosmic post-rock on Pandora. Dance in your room to The Weeknd. Listen to pop on your shower radio and sing country in your car at the top of your lungs. Third Eye Blind still works for every possible mood. And their new single kills it. Sign up for a rabies ...

T-Pain Takes On The Holy Land: Week 2 Update (Sunday to Shabbos)

http://tylersilver.blogspot.com/2009/09/week-2-update-sunday-to-shabbos.html

Week 2 Update (Sunday to Shabbos). I realize that I'm going to have to speed up my posting in order to catch up to the present, so I thought I'd give a large update all at once recapping Week 2, the first full week of Nativ, in one post. Sunday morning rolled around, and we quickly jumped out of bed for T'filot to begin our first official day of classes. I was headed off to the Conservative Yeshiva for my first day of official Gemara, Torah, and Ulpan learning. My class schedule is as follows:. That I br...

T-Pain Takes On The High Holidays: YK Edition. After 3 days of hiking on my desert survival trip, I am safe at home in Jerusalem, and am writing to finish my High Holidays post with the Yom Kippur Edition. My Yom Kippur experience started on Thursday, September 24 as the Nativers traveled down to Machane Yehuda. Market) to participate in the wild pagan ritual known as Kaparot. The scene was set before the ritual even started. After walking the 15 minutes to the shuk. Kosherly kill) the chickens. Not ...

T-Pain Takes On The Holy Land: Welcome to Israel

http://tylersilver.blogspot.com/2009/09/welcome-to-israel.html

September 14th, 1:00 AM - T-Pain Takes On The Holy Land. Is born. Throughout the course of the year, I will be updating my blog on a regular basis to recount and depict my experiences for my family and friends to give them an up close and personal view of my life abroad, Israel's culture, and above all Israeli food. Day 1 - September 1/2. One thing they don't tell you is how much nicer Beit Nativ is than the silly "Chavat Ha'Noar Ha'Tzioni" that they make you stay at on Ramah Seminar. Don't get me wr...

Seth's Israel Blog: Israel Experience Week!

http://sethdlerman.blogspot.com/2010/01/hey-everyone-long-time-no-update-again.html

Thursday, January 14, 2010. Long time, no update! I apologize for my long delay, but I believe that I have a pretty good excuse for why I’ve been so busy that I haven’t been able to blog. I’ll start where we left off. Ashley came to Israel! I had such a great time hanging out with her. Some highlights of the trip included her coming out with my friends and I, spending Shabbat at Shira Hadasha, and hanging out, just relaxing! It was so fun to see so many people that I knew from home all at the same time!

Seth's Israel Blog: December 2009

Tuesday, December 22, 2009. Long Post with a Guest Blogger! Call off the dogs! I have heard your calls, and I am back to blog about life here in J-town! One of the reasons why I haven’t blogged in so longs is because I have fallen into an everyday pattern of going to school, coming home, and studying. Life has been really busy with schoolwork, as finals quickly approach! In fact, I had my first final yesterday! Anyways, back to the previous week. On Friday December 11. No longer than 2 minutes after arri...

Seth's Israel Blog: February 2010

http://sethdlerman.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 24, 2010. I know that I haven’t written in a while, so I am going to update you only on my happenings since coming home from Italy. The week that I came home (Beit Nativ), we had an all-Nativ week, which was called “Israel Today Seminar”. This weeklong seminar focused on many different current event issues and areas of modern day Israel. I thought the panel discussion was actually really informative and fun! On Wednesday, February 10. So, im going to go now! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Tuesday, October 27, 2009. I’m here to update you on what’s happened to me here in Israel over the past weekend! It was a great weekend, and I can’t wait to tell you about it! I would like to thank Josh Sacks for allowing me to borrow some “snip-its” from his blog to help me out! Friday morning, October 23rd, Josh and I board a bus from the central bus station en route to Bat Yam. Meaning The Daughter of the Sea], a suburb of Tel-Aviv. Seth's Israel Blog: September 2009

http://sethdlerman.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 24, 2009. My New Favorite Jewish Custom. Judaism is full of different types of customs and traditions. I have experienced many of them, but none like the one I did today! I went with a HUGE group (about 50 people) to the shuk (marketplace) to go do Kaparot. It is when you take a chicken, grab it by it’s wing’s and swing it over your head. Each chicken costs 50 Sheckles, and it all goes to charity. It was truly a bizarre, and fun way to prepare for Yom Kippor. Here are some pictures!

I will write a massive update about it when I get the chance, but as for now, I'll show you my pictures from the trip! Here are pictures from Rome. Here are pictures from Pompei, Sorrento, Naples and Florence. Here are pictures from Venice, Madonna De Campiglio and Milano. Hope all is well! Thursday, January 14, 2010. Long time, no update! T-Pain Takes On The Holy Land: T-Pain Takes On The High Holidays: RH Edition

http://tylersilver.blogspot.com/2009/09/t-pain-takes-on-high-holidays-rh.html

T-Pain Takes On The High Holidays: RH Edition. It's been a while since I've posted, and I know that you guys are getting restless. I am truly sorry, but with all of the Chagim. It's been hard to keep up and to post on a regular basis. Not much has happened in terms of during the week, so I am going to update you on the High Holidays, then on the past Shabbat, and then I will finally be up to date. And got ritually cleansed; I swear we got dirtier from that water. The special thing about the chagim. With ...

Adventures in Israel

Thursday, August 25, 2011. Well I made it back. It's so green here! Now I'm home and ready for a nap, just a little one! Monday, August 22, 2011. It was a really good time up in the North, but hard to say goodbye. Last night I went out to Tel Aviv with Ben and we met up with Tamar for dinner. It's really too bad I didn't get to spend more time with her because she is such an easy friend to have. Once again.why am I so much better at making new girlfriends in Israel than I ever was at home? 11 Refusing to...

Shalom from Ramat Gan

Shalom from Ramat Gan. Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Allloooo to my dearest children, grandchildren, family, friends, neighbors, and all of you who are. NYC is in the midst of a hot and humid summer. I did not leave my home today. Amongst all the things I did in the house, I also took time to reminiscence of summers in years gone by. Two of my grandchildren went to a sleep-away camp in Marshall, Indiana, which brought me to Camp Ramah in the Pennsylvanian Pocono Mountains during the years 1970-72. My assigned ...
