Scene in the Past

Scene in the Past. Friday, February 28, 2014. And the Nankeen boot is now available! Just way too busy to post much, alas. I have big plans for this year, including a number of late 1700s items, my first foray into the 1910s, and a beaded 1920s robe de style. Currently I'm hand-sewing some 1780s stays. They're white/off white wool on the outside, stitched in blue. Very pretty! And very much needed before I can continue with the rest of my plans. Source: Museum of London. Scene in the Past. Scene in the Past: August 2012

http://sceneinthepast.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Scene in the Past. Monday, August 20, 2012. Costume College - Friday. Friday was the first full day of Costume College, with lots of classes. It took me a little longer to get dressed than I had allowed for - 18th century doesn't have many pieces, but it sure takes me a while - so I ended up going with Lauren M. to a class on the movie designs of Howard Greer. I confess I'd never heard of Howard Greer, but I discovered I was. Already familiar with some of his designs! Photo by Lauren M. Photo by Lauren M.

Scene in the Past. Sunday, September 30, 2012. Costume College - Sunday. I was pretty worn out on Sunday. No wonder, with the late night! Once again I did not make it to the Sunday Undies breakfast, although I did not sleep in very late. I took it easy, did lots of final shopping, and went to a class on 1860s jewelry that was really good. Photo courtesy Jennifer Thompson. Photo courtesy Jennifer Thompson. This time I accessorized with my new red stone brooch. Too bad I don't have any photo proof. I accid...

Scene in the Past: Historical Sew Fortnightly #7: Accessorize: 1860s Embroidered & Edged Collar

http://sceneinthepast.blogspot.com/2013/04/historical-sew-fortnightly-7.html

Scene in the Past. Monday, April 15, 2013. Historical Sew Fortnightly #7: Accessorize: 1860s Embroidered and Edged Collar. I had big plans for this challenge. I've done 1860s reenacting for. HSF #7, Accessorize, sounded like a great opportunity to fill in some gaps. I decided I needed fancy undersleeves. 1860s undersleeves can be works of art, all fluffy, frilly, lacey, ribbon-y goodness. The problem was deciding exactly what design to make up or copy. But when a countdown clock is ticking, whether for a...
