Saint du Barrys Country Lodge: Hand-crafted hospitality
http://saintdubarrys.blogspot.com/2012/09/hand-crafted-hospitality.html
Saint du Barrys Country Lodge. Sunday, 9 September 2012. This is an ideal to which guest-house owners who enjoy their work aspire. I think it also explains why people who prefer guest-houses to hotels do so. Being more personal than a hotel, a guest-house also reflects a narrative, and this is part of the appeal of living the guest-house life-style. In room two, there is a set of four pictures called. The Road to Bisho. Over eleven years, a vivid red splash has washed through Saint du Barrys. When we...

Saint du Barrys Country Lodge: Shopping in Clanwilliam
http://saintdubarrys.blogspot.com/2012/11/shopping-in-clanwilliam.html
Saint du Barrys Country Lodge. Friday, 23 November 2012. Is there a general store and when is it open? There is a Spar, in fact a SuperSpar which means it's a bigger one with more lines and ranges, and it's open for seven days a week from seven till seven, except for Christmas Day and Good Friday. There are also other general stores, but the Spar is the best stocked. When are petrol stations open? Where can I buy airtime? Spar, Pep and possibly a few more places. Prof Walter Harry Willies. We live in Cla...

Saint du Barrys Country Lodge: October 2016
http://saintdubarrys.blogspot.com/2016_10_01_archive.html
Saint du Barrys Country Lodge. Tuesday, 4 October 2016. Down the hospitality rabbit hole. I have heard that some boutique hotels have a private swimming pool for each suite. The main thing, as I understand it, is that if people pay for what they want, they are entitled to get what they want. This seems fair enough, but I am surprised, sometimes, at what people want. Special occasions, moments, relationships and experiences are to be sought after, but consistent opulence and extravagance? But my musings to...

Saint du Barrys Country Lodge: Winter sun in the Cederberg and at Saint du Barrys
http://saintdubarrys.blogspot.com/2014/06/winter-sun-in-cederberg-and-at-saint-du.html
Saint du Barrys Country Lodge. Monday, 30 June 2014. Winter sun in the Cederberg and at Saint du Barrys. Today is a good day for being outside, for enjoying the warmth and for noticing how nature is replenishing her growth. Give it just a couple of weeks, and the flowers will begin to respond, too. Some rain is forecast this coming Friday, a good sign of a floral explosion soon after. Taking the season less travelled can be remarkably rewarding. Prof Walter Harry Willies. Saint du Barrys Country Lodge: Saint du Barrys, Cederberg and Clanwilliam

Saint du Barrys Country Lodge. Tuesday, 31 July 2012. Saint du Barrys, Cederberg and Clanwilliam. The town has a busy vibe, except for Sunday afternoons. Our day is filled with chores needing to be done every hour, and because we're inhabitants, not visitors, sometimes we wonder how guests have experienced the town. Please leave comments, to let us know. Prof Walter Harry Willies. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Visiting the Cederberg: discovery, experience, introspection. Seasons at Saint du Barrys.

Saint du Barrys Country Lodge: For the love of a guest-house.
http://saintdubarrys.blogspot.com/2015/04/for-love-of-guest-house.html
Saint du Barrys Country Lodge. Monday, 27 April 2015. For the love of a guest-house. Why would anyone want to run a guest-house? The hours are long, the work attention-intense, the required skills many and varied, the rewards often subtle. Yet they are real. I always enjoy it when guests arrive, look around, admire the tree and say, spontaneously, "This is a nice place you have! When you do something for long enough, you realize that your body does not occupy space: instead, the rhythmns and patterns of ...

Saint du Barrys Country Lodge: September 2016
http://saintdubarrys.blogspot.com/2016_09_01_archive.html
Saint du Barrys Country Lodge. Wednesday, 28 September 2016. Saint du Barrys and poetry people. Poetry is as individual as the person who produces it, extremely versatile and probably the most direct path to that no-man's land between experience and language. Two of these poems were put to writing and emerged at breakfast the next morning. I enjoy this kind of encounter with poetry people, especially those who aren't gurus of grandiosity, but are simply willing to give one glimpses of their private words.
