Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian

Monday, August 10, 2015. Very busy Sunday this week. To begin we had special musical guests, Raven Baroque. They played the prelude, offertory and postlude as well as accompanying the hymns. Thanks to Larry for arranging this, and thanks to the members of the group for gracing our service. But, the highlight of the service was the baptism of Owen Robert Arthur, the newest member of our fellowship. The congregation welcomed Owen with prayer and hymns and many smiles. Monday, August 3, 2015. Some things I'...

Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian: March 2015

http://saanichpeninsulapc.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 30, 2015. Report from mission team. We give thanks that our team has returned safely from the Dominican Republic, carrying a few bruises, the odd sunburn and a host of stories. Felicity earned a reputation as master bender of rebar. Those triangles are essential for attaching the roof part of the house to the block walls. Of course, building houses was only one purpose for the trip. Another was to build relationships. Those relationships allowed The House Upon the Rock. Before the team left...

Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian: July 2015

http://saanichpeninsulapc.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 27, 2015. Our neighbour was a busy farm wife with hundreds of tasks awaiting her attention. She received no monetary recompense for teaching a batch of smart-aleck school girls. She didn't even have a child of her own to benefit from the 4-H club. She deserved our gratitude, not our ridicule. The Bible is rife with instructions to guard our speech. James 3:8,. 1 Peter 3;10. To reference a few. Monday, July 20, 2015. Everything I Need to Know I Learned From a Little Golden Book,. And the capt...

Apparently humans aren't very good at taking in new information so they need to receive it in many forms, hence, redundancy. At SPPC, this blog is one form of communication, the weekly bulletin is another, as are announcements from the pulpit but this week I draw your attention to our church newsletter, "The Shepherd's Way.". Finally,...

Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian: August 2015

http://saanichpeninsulapc.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 31, 2015. He Laveth the Thirsty Land. Years ago I was privileged to sing in a performance of Mendelssohn's "Elijah. One of the great choruses from that oratorio is " Thanks be to God, He Laveth the Thirsty Land. The oratorio is based on the story of Elijah as told in 1 Kings. At that time Israel had turned away from God. King Ahab had married Jezebel and begun worshipping Baal. Jewish prophets, including Elijah were persecuted. As a result of Israel's disobedience the rain disappeared.

Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian: Year of Mission

http://saanichpeninsulapc.blogspot.com/2015/06/year-of-mission.html

Monday, June 29, 2015. Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian Church has always supported mission work in one form or other. Our annual budget includes a line dedicated to PWS&D. Our Sunday School supports a foster child, we sponsor the warm toes project for Our Place and members of the congregation have donated hundreds and hundreds of items to the Compassionate Warehouse, just to name a few of our outreach endeavours. Last July. We collected bottles all fall and winter, held a concert,. Then invited us all to ...
