New writing, experiments, stuff. Archive for December 2012. Laquo; the new belfry home page. December 23, 2012. He can’t tell the time from the light through the window. It’s too grey. Mute. It could be dawn, dusk, or noon. His heart pounds loudly as he squints at the alarm clock. It’s too far away to see without his glasses on. It could be six or eight. Either is fine. He can still sleep but his heart won’t slow down. Squinting again at the clock, he sees it’s half past six. Be the first to comment.

New writing, experiments, stuff. Laquo; quiet sea. The sound of the snow pleased her. It crunched and it squeaked at the end of every step. Her boots slipped a little as they compacted the fresh powder. For each of those precarious split-seconds her heart jumped. Just a little. There wasn’t any real danger. I am not arachnophobic. But I'm more than curious as to where the massive spider I uncovered while cleaning my room is. It was hiding under a pair of shorts next to my bed. And now it's gone. I don’t remember the dream, but I’m pretty sure it was a good one. The sense of disappointment when it was shattered by my phone’s alarm was proof of that. I tried to grab at the last few tendrils of memory, but they slipped into permanent shadow. My body knew it wasn’t meant to be awake. I moved slowly. I’ve not written from a train in awhile. I’ve not been on a train in awhile. Oh, I’ve been on the the tube and overground and that sort of thing, but those aren’t really trains. Real trains cross countries and borders, not cities. . I’m off north to Scotland to drink wine and catch up with friends and wonder once again why I don’t here anymore. . Cacophony's a great word, but I'm having difficulty with it. You see, the 'phony' part of it restricts its use to sounds, and the realm of the aural. Where have I been and what have I been doing? The Red Sox season is killing me, which is just as well as life’s proper portions of heartache and heartbreak are fresh and raw and searing and if I seem down, it’s just the baseball, honest. Breakfast cereal is a cornerstone of childhood. It was for me anyway. My mother and I battled constantly about it. Like all other red-blooded American children I wanted a bowl of cereal designed to put as much sugar into my bloodstream per spoonful as the laws of physics permitted. I read Calvin and Hobbes.
