Not racing this year? We would love to have your help! An event T-shirt, and a meal and beverage ticket for the after party. Record boat numbers and time as paddlers check-in at your location. Communicate with other check-in locations to make sure paddlers are safe and accounted for. Patrol the course and help paddlers in distress. Set up for the event, cook, hand out food, etc. for the after party. All volunteers must be ages 18 and over. 2014 James River Association.

Get some paddling in prior to the race, particularly at least one long paddle (6 hours) to figure out comfort, food and water intake, etc. Paddling areas of the course prior to the event is very helpful. Each race craft must be propelled exclusively by paddle power (double or single blade) while on the water. No rowing configuration is permitted. No sail, kite or motor is permitted. For any "shortcut" to be legal, it must have a flow of river water through it. Overland portages are not allowed. Outside assistance is not permitted while on the river, but support crews can meet racers at checkpoints or other areas on shore. Multiple teams may not share paddlers.
