A Blog about Homesteading, Family, and Rural Christian Living. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Catching Up on Christmas - Time at the Dining Room Table. Where much our of living is done. You can see the start of a 1500 piece puzzle on the right. Fannie Mae's General Store - Lot's of work in this one! This year we played games with the girls (which included some work on letters and numbers) at the table. Age appropriate games with them are such a hoot! Somebody is snitching the decorations! Hoosier Country Home: Rain, Rain,...
http://hoosiercountryhome.blogspot.com/2015/06/rain-rain.html
A Blog about Homesteading, Family, and Rural Christian Living. Monday, June 15, 2015. Rain, Rain,. So I was really hoping for a chance to get out in the garden when I got home from the 'day job' today. We still have a lot to do and I was planning on a wildly productive evening with weeds flying, seeds dropping, and the compost pile just getting all topsy-turvy. (OK - at maybe one bed cleared and maybe some carrots or beets in the ground.). June 15, 2015 at 8:34 PM. June 17, 2015 at 6:37 PM. Yep Semper Gu...

Hoosier Country Home: Not gettin' it all done!
http://hoosiercountryhome.blogspot.com/2015/05/not-gettin-it-all-done.html
A Blog about Homesteading, Family, and Rural Christian Living. Sunday, May 17, 2015. Not gettin' it all done! It's like this every year, but I just never get used to it. I never get all (or most, or a respectable "also ran" amount) of the spring work done in the spring when it needs to be done. This year is no exception, but some reason I feel worse about this year than most. There are some excuses, which I'll share with you, but excuses or not there's a lot of work to do to get caught up with the season.

Hoosier Country Home: July 2014
http://hoosiercountryhome.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
A Blog about Homesteading, Family, and Rural Christian Living. Thursday, July 31, 2014. Time to get everyone caught up again on the happenings at the Hoosier Country Homestead. I was all ready to post late last weekend when we discovered our internet had ceased to function. By the time we were back up and operational, I was into the work week at my "away" job and am just now getting a free evening to get caught up. Papa" reads to his little girls. They love the chickens! Time to add some pine shavings to...

Hoosier Country Home: Live and Learn...
http://hoosiercountryhome.blogspot.com/2015/07/live-and-learn.html
A Blog about Homesteading, Family, and Rural Christian Living. Friday, July 3, 2015. A couple of days ago I promised a post on recent faux pas I had made in the garden. Well, here it is! The full list is actually quite long, so I'm just going to hit a couple of highlights here. 1 The lesson of the mulch. A nice crop of wheat where it should never have been. And in the course of a couple days, nears completion. 2 The lesson of the volunteer plants. They looked a little taller than the berries we've had in...

Hoosier Country Home: May 2015
http://hoosiercountryhome.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
A Blog about Homesteading, Family, and Rural Christian Living. Monday, May 25, 2015. Progress on the Homestead! We've made a bit of progress towards getting the spring work caught up, but we didn't get competely there. A valiant attempt to come home from the day job early fell flat, but it was a beautiful evening even if it started late. Friday is usually date night but De and I had several mini-dates through the week, and decided we'd had enough of eating out for the week. A bunch of herbs. All in all i...

Hoosier Country Home: March 2015
http://hoosiercountryhome.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
A Blog about Homesteading, Family, and Rural Christian Living. Monday, March 30, 2015. So a couple of weeks ago a circuit breaker that powers De's miniatures/dollhouse room and part of one bathroom tripped. The first thing I always suspect is a bad GFI outlet, so I replaced it with no change. Maybe the ceiling fan light fixture? Pulled the switches, no change. Maybe the outlet De uses the most? Nope Just a bad breaker? I also checked to make sure the return on the socket did NOT connect at all to the "ho...

http://hoosiercountryhome.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
A Blog about Homesteading, Family, and Rural Christian Living. Saturday, June 28, 2014. Book Review - 'Killing Jesus' by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard. By Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard is one in a series of 'Killing' books that include Killing Lincoln. I did not read either of these books prior to reading Killing Jesus. While I have essentially given up television (with the exception of NFL Football - Go Colts! Chapter 21 ends with two women at an empty tomb and the words, "To this day, the body of J...

Hoosier Country Home: August 2015
http://hoosiercountryhome.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
A Blog about Homesteading, Family, and Rural Christian Living. Sunday, August 30, 2015. Gotta" go to work? Things at the Hoosier Country Homestead have been pretty much the same over the last week. The green beans are producing, the tomatoes are still coming in, and everything else is looking pretty good given its weedy condition. The chickens are cranking out eggs and complaining (bitterly) about being thrown out of the tomato beds. 8220;A time to be born and a time to die,. The list is pretty much the ...

Hoosier Country Home: April 2015
http://hoosiercountryhome.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
A Blog about Homesteading, Family, and Rural Christian Living. Sunday, April 19, 2015. Getting the Orchard Underway. A great weekend here on the Hoosier Country Homestead! Saturday morning was the usual list of weekend chores in the coop and yard, along with a bit of shopping on my part. Saturday afternoon, however. I believe it thought it was a Black Locust. I simply identified it as "in the way". Getting a start on the first bit of it. I decided, since I had tree parts poking out everywhere, to take it...
