Sunday, January 22, 2012. On Being in Detroit. Krista Tippet's show, On Being, featured Grace Lee Boggs and Detroit this morning. Dr. Boggs is my neighbor - she lives and runs the Boggs Center just a short block from our house here on the East Side of the city. You can see the episode entry on the show's blog. Homegrown Pomegranates: Whole moments
http://homegrownpomegranates.blogspot.com/2012/04/whole-moments.html
Adventures far and away. Monday, April 9, 2012. Thursday. The table was set beautifully and simply. Fresh baked buns, cream cheese, grapes, juice, and water. We filed in silently, passed food in silence, ate in silence. On other days, we shout for silence. Today, we were silent. Exchanging looks and thoughts. Peacefulness. Saturday. I have fallen in love with everyone all over again. Gathering - coming back to John 1. So much activity in the kitchen! Amongst frantic dinner preparations, lets just rest!

Homegrown Pomegranates: September 2011
http://homegrownpomegranates.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Adventures far and away. Friday, September 30, 2011. Finally a rainy day! Once it cooled off a bit, Korea has been nothing but sunny and pleasant every single day. The Koreans said, however, that today would bring rain, and with that, cooler weather. They were right about the rain, but let's see it fall is truly upon us! Friday, September 30, 2011. Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Cheonan City Bus Tour. The tour guide inquired. Handing her my reservation, she asked again, "Ticket? After lunch, we went to I...

Homegrown Pomegranates: Talent Show
http://homegrownpomegranates.blogspot.com/2012/05/talent-show.html
Adventures far and away. Wednesday, May 9, 2012. My gardening student who speaks only in a whisper, and that only when spoken to, playing a Scottish tune on the piano. My farming student who is similarly silent getting up to the microphone and singing out clearly. Hands in the air, face beaming, singing "Honey Honey" the whole way through (the only time I have heard her make it to the end). Wednesday, May 09, 2012. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Thursday, September 22, 2011. I am Troy Davis / I killed Troy Davis. Race, the criminal justice system, and the death penalty. But there's no way to correct a death sentence. If Troy Davis were serving a sentence of life in prison without parole, he could continue to press the legal system to grant him a fair trial — but because the death penalty exists, he will not have that opportunity. A group of NAACP organizers went to visit Troy in prison yesterday, and NAACP's Robert Rooks said this about the visi...

roots in community: Minneapolis Area Synod Assembly
http://korlainca.blogspot.com/2012/02/minneapolis-area-synod-assembly.html
Saturday, February 18, 2012. Minneapolis Area Synod Assembly. Minneapolis-area Lutherans on Friday went on record against changing the state Constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman. Actually, my understanding is that we went on record as having already been on record against changing the Constitution, but that's a small detail. (This resolution reaffirmed a 2004 resolution to the same effect, from last time these shenanigans were happening.). Needless to say, I'm excited.

Friday, October 14, 2011. My last day in El Sitio, I sat with María as she was practicing her writing assignment - writing the numbers 0-20,000 by fives (! And my thought was, "Rock on! Saturday, October 8, 2011. Or, Two Wheels, Four Wheels, Red Wheels, Kor's Wheels). The city girl who has navigated life thus far without relying on my own car, would certainly do better. I. Don't get stressed by the bus but rather find it relaxing and quite a good time, meeting neighbors and having good conversation.

Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Que te vaya bien. I am emotionally at sea. I found out yesterday morning that one of my former students left for the US. I had seen her in school on Monday afternoon, but didn't know she was leaving - didn't get to say goodbye. Traveling as a woman makes this exponentially more dangerous. She is traveling with a male relative, which I think played into the timing of her going, but still women are targeted infinitely more than men for sexually based attacks. And you know what?
