FrankenGirl: Brang & Our Wild World of Words
http://frankengirl.blogspot.com/2006/03/brang-our-wild-world-of-words.html
Monday, March 13, 2006. Brang and Our Wild World of Words. This entry is inspired by a comment on a previous post from MysticGypsy. Who reflected on how many of us automatically assume our words are understood in the light we intended. Thus, a harsh word to one might sound hilarious to another, or vice versa. And all the while, we must use these words to describe our basic daily needs as well as our innermost feelings, and hope that we are understood. Brang is a Word: It Better Be! The bell and sang.

FrankenGirl: Writing What Women Know
http://frankengirl.blogspot.com/2006/03/writing-what-women-know.html
Tuesday, March 28, 2006. Writing What Women Know. Write what you know.". I heard these words often as a child. And Little Women. One of the most popular novels for girls, offers me the same moral. Jo writes sensational and imaginative tales, but the Professor, whom she comes to respect and love, doesn't think such stories are worthy of her. He essentially counsels her to write what she knows, and subsequently, she publishes a successful novel about her family. Be disgusting if a woman wrote it? Was writt...

Dangerous and True: June 2006
http://dangerousandtrue.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Revelations that are dangerous and true are what I want from others and what I'll offer you. Thursday, June 29, 2006. Why Are People So Uninterested in What Disinterested Means? This is another one of those really fastidious distinctions, but I am annoyed that most people can't be bothered to use disinterested. Correctly. The primary definition of disinterested. Is "free of bias and self-interest; impartial," as in, "the decision should be made by a disinterested. When they should use uninterested. What ...

Dangerous and True: March 2006

Revelations that are dangerous and true are what I want from others and what I'll offer you. Wednesday, March 15, 2006. Et al, et cetera, et ux. I just came across a document in which the author used "et al" when he should have used "etc.". This is a mistake common among people who are trying to appear smarter and better educated than they really are, and it annoys the crap out of me. So as a public service, I'm going to explain what these three phrases mean. Please make a note of this. Speak of the Devil.

Dangerous and True: January 2006
http://dangerousandtrue.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Revelations that are dangerous and true are what I want from others and what I'll offer you. Tuesday, January 31, 2006. OK, I'm going to complain about something else that happened at school. This semester, two of my classes are lit classes: a senior-level class for English and creative writing majors on contemporary nonfiction prose, and general education class on women's literature. One is Through the Narrow Gate. But I stood firm. And lo and behold, when they came to class after the weekend, they said...

Dangerous and True: May 2006
http://dangerousandtrue.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
Revelations that are dangerous and true are what I want from others and what I'll offer you. Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Sometimes Technology Really Does Make Everyone's Life Easier. I recently called a good friend of mine. When her partner answered the phone, I asked to speak to my friend. Her partner then said, not all that politely, "She's unavailable. Who's calling? So fucking there, you fucking fuck.". Maybe next time, if the message isn't urgent, I will. Posted by bluestocking at 11:22 AM. Contrary to...

Dangerous and True: December 2005
http://dangerousandtrue.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Revelations that are dangerous and true are what I want from others and what I'll offer you. Sunday, December 11, 2005. I would apologize to my devoted readers for sadly neglecting this blog in favor of 1) keeping my day job and 2) posting on my primary blog. But I doubt this blog has attracted many devoted readers, given just how sadly I've neglected it. My friend Saviour Onassis. Has two blogs: While You're on Your Knees. Where he writes about his life and stuff; and Queerest of the Queer. But when I c...

Dangerous and True: April 2006
http://dangerousandtrue.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Revelations that are dangerous and true are what I want from others and what I'll offer you. Sunday, April 30, 2006. I am a sucker for grocery-store giveaways and free samples. If someone is offering chunks of papaya speared on toothpicks, or tiny slices of a freshly made hamburger on a cocktail napkin, or braised lamb and dill-adorned sweet potatoes in a little plastic cup (little plastic fork provided so you can eat it without getting your fingers dirty), then hey! I bought the pound cake, but I also b...

Revelations that are dangerous and true are what I want from others and what I'll offer you. Sunday, October 30, 2005. A Man I LOVE. I LOVE Saviour Onassis. Who is brilliant and artistic and generous, and who helped me create my new banner. Posted by bluestocking at 4:39 PM. Thursday, October 27, 2005. I really like men who agree with me, not because they want to placate or seduce me, but because they're smart enough to realize I'm right. Posted by bluestocking at 3:44 PM. Dangerous and True: November 2005
http://dangerousandtrue.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
Revelations that are dangerous and true are what I want from others and what I'll offer you. Saturday, November 05, 2005. The Queen of Swords. I used to be a kickass tarot reader. I suppose I still might be- I haven't been asked to do it for someone else for a while, and I became too frustrated to do it for myself. It was too much an exercise in wish fulfillment, except that the wishes were rarely fulfilled: I would go to the cards when I wanted not an answer, but a particular. What made it worse was tha...
