Rainsville Chamber of Commerce. Rainsville is a small city of approximately 5,000 residents located on the large plateau known as Sand Mountain in northeast Alabama. Rainsville was incorporated in 1956. Rainsville is named in honor of Will Rains who opened an eight-by-twelve foot log general store at the crossroads in 1902. From 2000 to 2015, the Rainsville Chamber of Commerce has awarded $58,600 in college scholarships. Three $1,500 scholarships were awarded to Plainview High School seniors each spring since 2005. In 2015, the first class of seniors at Cornerstone Christian Academy graduated and the Chamber awarded one $1,500 scholarship to one of their seniors. The Chamber will be awarding scholarships once again in May 2015. To make a donation for the scholarship fund by check, send this donation form.
