Raising awareness for pancreatic cancer. PurpleOurWorld was founded in October 2014, just three weeks before the inaugural World Pancreatic Cancer Day. In August, 2014, our family lost a very special person – wife, mother, nana, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend – Rochelle Goulburn. She fought pancreatic cancer for a staggering 16 months. So, we decided to do something about it, in the hopes that people going through what we went through don’t feel alone. We decided to purple our world.

Raising awareness for pancreatic cancer. When it comes to pancreatic cancer, the facts are often quite distressing to read. The pancreas has two main functions – to produce insulin controlling the amount of sugar in the blood and to produce enzymes to help with food digestion. It lies between the stomach and the spine. It has one of, if not the, lowest survival rate of all the cancers. Once diagnosed, patients have just a 6.8% survival rate beyond five years. The median survival rate is just 3-6 months.
