Preach One, Purl Two

Sunday, January 15, 2017. KKQ 2017: Sunday Morning, Tasting. Is where I explain this little series of meditations. Deuteronomy 8:6-10; Psalm 63; John 2:1-11. One of my favorite cinematic scenes is from the movie, Chocolat. Our sense of taste has the primal function of alerting us to foods that are energy-rich and foods that are poisonous, but most of the time it is the most luxurious. He doesn't like Brussels sprouts, he just doesn't. So how is Jennifer going to connect all this to knitting and quilting?

Preach One, Purl Two: Take Notice

http://preachonepurltwo.blogspot.com/2014/01/take-notice.html

Saturday, January 18, 2014. Third of seven homilies preached at the 2014 Kanuga Knitting and Quilting Conference in Hendersonville, NC. Psalm 139:1-5; Mark 2:13-17. As I passed by the tree, a bird was chirping, and I thought nothing of it at first, fumbling for my keys in my coat pockets. But then a fluttering movement startled me, and I looked up. There I was, eye to eye with a bird in the evergreen, so near I could see the reprimand in his eyes and hear it in his chirps: Notice me! It was the stitches.

Preach One, Purl Two: Starting on Empty

http://preachonepurltwo.blogspot.com/2014/01/starting-on-empty.html

Friday, January 17, 2014. The second of seven homilies preached at the 2014 Kanuga Knitting and Quilting Conference. In Hendersonville, NC. Psalm 3:3-5; John 2:1-12. Wouldn't that be a great trick to know, quite a charism we could receive at our baptism into the Body of Christ? And why stop at turning water into wine? We could turn cotton into cashmere. Or burlap into silk! That would be amazing. Molly Wolf imagines what is in that wine in those wedding jars, in our communion cups. "Who knows," she w...

http://preachonepurltwo.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 15, 2013. It has been ten years - ten years! Since we went to the beach, a wonderful whirlwind trip with family when C3 was just 3 years old. So when a parishioner offered a beachfront condominium for just the three of us to spend a whole week in Destin this summer, we started packing. Swimsuits, goggles, sunscreen, boardgames, bucket.done. And yarn, of course. Plymouth Jeanee. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). What the Tide Brings In. My Log Cabin Life. http://preachonepurltwo.blogspot.com/2015/07/preach-one-proper-8b.html

Sunday, July 05, 2015. Preach One: Proper 8B. Preached at St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral.no images with this one, just words. Wisdom of Solomon 1:13-15, 2:23-24; Psalm 30; 2 Corinthians 8:7-15; Mark 5:21-43. And in this matter,. Paul wrote, I am giving my advice: it is appropriate for you who began last year not only to do something but even to desire to do something - now finish doing it. Last month, I began to do something.well, to desire. Is a lovely if lofty goal. Read one psalm every morning.

Tink and Purl: Un-biased

http://tinkandpurl.blogspot.com/2013/07/un-biased.html

Wednesday, July 24, 2013. After a lengthy post about the legacy of knitting in my family, I am going to unearth a few "draft" posts over the next few weeks. These have been languishing behind the scenes of this blog. Some are more than a year old, but knitting knows no time boundaries. This is a short post to introduce my " Un-biased. Last spring one of the group found the Unbiased Scarf. Others are well on their way, and still others are in the planning process. I have a huge stash of sock yarn, and...

Tink and Purl: Looking back #2: snowmen

http://tinkandpurl.blogspot.com/2011/01/looking-back-2-snowmen.html

Wednesday, January 05, 2011. Looking back #2: snowmen. From the aforementioned knitting group. At the library, a number of snowmen took shape during breaks in the staff room. The pattern is Mr. Flurry. Other Ravelry interpretations are here. And he was adorned in many different colors by group members. One was even made with green yarn as the body and sported a Santa hat and scarf. I wish I had gotten a picture of the Grinch snowman! This snowman is sporting his house colors for Gryffindor and is living.

Tink and Purl: The Year of the Hat

http://tinkandpurl.blogspot.com/2011/12/year-of-hat.html

Saturday, December 17, 2011. The Year of the Hat. The Year of the Hat. Of course, another helix hat! For the final hat, I used the k3p3 pattern for prayer shawls. I though it was appropriate to take time to remember all the hats as well as pray for those who would be receiving the hats. I will take them to church tomorrow, and let the staff determine the recipients. Here they are, all together, for one last time:. And how did the rest of my goals fare? Here's the link to the original post. I will have ne...

My Log Cabin Life: Seen Around

My Log Cabin Life. Friday, October 7, 2011. Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (missing some wings on both sides). Pipevine Swallowtail (look at that blue in the sunlight! This is a blurry shot of the same Giant Swallowtail in the photo above. I chased this butterfly around the garden for several minutes because I wanted to get a good photo for identification. It seemed to be very aware of my presence and eventually tired of me and left the yard. Doesn't it look ghostly? Thank you for sharing these pictures!

My Log Cabin Life. Saturday, January 5, 2013. Sooooo. . . . it's been a long while since I've written here. In fact, it's been about a year! I don't know much about Louisiana. I didn't even have gumbo or jambalya until graduate school when I met my future husband, and we took a trip to New Orleans. Now we are in the middle of the real deal, and I can't wait to see, smell, hear, and taste it all. Because I knew I would miss these roots. Im glad to see you back at the blog. http://mylogcabinlife.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

My Log Cabin Life. Sunday, January 1, 2012. I'm Back. . . In November and December, I was addicted to hat making. I knitted all Thanksgiving break and beyond into the last few weeks of school. I knitted during winter break, and I still have a few more to finish as the new year begins. Finally, I leave you with apologies that I have been absent for so long. While I'm not making any promises for 2012, I have missed this place for recording some of the things I am doing, making, and thinking. Happy ...Sarah...

About two years ago, one of my new year's resolutions was to knit a sweater. The year 2011, my friends, is THE YEAR. I'm giddy with excitement in reaching a goal and bursting with anticipation for cooler weather (it is only 99 degrees right now with a heat index of 104). The swatching worked because it fits!
