Monday, June 13, 2011. The Great Flood of 2011 . When I wrote the posting on the Great Flood Of 2010. I admit I did so somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Last year's flood was, depending on your point of view, anywhere between amusing and annoying. Human lives were not in jeopardy, nor were there any serious property damage incidents. It's a bit more serious here and now in 2011! As long as the levees continue to hold, "they" tell us that no serious disruptions will occur and no mass evacuations will be required.

Wednesday, April 01, 2015. In 2007 I was lucky enough to be able to arrange my schedule to allow me to attend the closing of the Frontier Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. A report on that evening appears on line Here. The Riviera Hotel and Casino, which opened in 1955 and remains one of the few standing true "legacy" Rat-Pack area casinos, is scheduled to close on May 4 of this year, 2015. What we know as the Riviera is destined to become a new "West Hall" expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Year after the flood . As I've noted in previous posts, one of my favorite places to get away and take a very relaxing walk is the "Wetlands" area of Fontenelle Forest, which is surrounded on three sides by the Missouri River. This photo shows the Wetlands in 2007. One year ago, in August of 2011, the Wetlands area was totally inaccessible due to flooding! As I reported last December in THIS. Posting, as the water receded, considerable damage to the Wetlands area was evident.
