Beautiful Existence

Last week, Sadie and I decided we'd just swing on down to Seattle on the heel of receiving news that Grandma and Grandpa we're heading that way. If they were going to be on the west coast I figured it wouldn't be too hard to mosey on down so they could meet their first great-grandbaby! And to see Meg, Russ and Curren, and Amanda, Calais and Sonya. So much loving family for this new baby! We were greeted in Seattle by Meg and Curren - how great to see them! We hit up the kids museum for a brief bit and I ...

Beautiful Existence: New England, Part 1

http://northernwinter.blogspot.com/2012/11/new-england-part-1.html

New England, Part 1. After a week in beautiful, sunny Sitka (it's like that all the time, right? I made it back to New England for a two week trip visiting family and friends. It's a fabulous time to sit back, relax, and *finally* update this blog! I'll try to get some older photos up from the summer, but for now here are some shots from my first week in Maine. Tomorrow I'm heading to MA to visit mom, grandparents, and friends there. We came back and found the creepy crawlies all over. Lime disease i...

Beautiful Existence: March 2010

http://northernwinter.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Spring or Winter….hard sayin’, not knowin’. 160; Well, it was entirely novice and (mostly) I knew it. This past week we’ve had blizzarding conditions – they cancelled school on Friday! 160; Snow.  Lots of snow.  So, I’ve brought my skis back out, put my running sneaker insoles back in my xtra tuffs, and admitted that I was wrong.  It’s only March.  It’s still winter. . 160; I toured the Seward harbor for work, Chris drank coffee, and then he played with a lovely harbor seal before we left. 160; I love it.

Beautiful Existence: April 2010

http://northernwinter.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

It must be spring! 160;  Look at all of the cleaning that has been done -  Ben really did a nice job cleaning a little while ago, even sucking out the dead flies from the ceiling lights! Sorry, Dad, no windows were cleaned – I think we need you for that chore! In addition to the cleaning, Ben launched his boat this month! Backing her down the launch ramp.  Ben’s still in need of a real trailer, but this one managed to make it from the sawmill to the harbor without a hitch! Checking the engines,. 160; Mea...

Beautiful Existence: January 2011

http://northernwinter.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Into the new year. Notable end-of-2010 activities included:. Fantastically beautiful winter weather. Okay, I know weather isn’t an activity. But really it’s so worth noting at the top of the list – it’s been a fabulous winter so far, with great snow for skiing and blue skies. 602 Shellfish – our lovely home, with all of the snowy, wintery goodness. My mom has been working at Picture Alaska, an art gallery here in Homer. They were looking to fill this bit of wall space for the December First Friday. I was...

Beautiful Existence: December 2009

http://northernwinter.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Head towards the light…. (a.k.a. Mexico, Part 1). I was determined to leave Alaska during the holiday break this year, having not left the state on a ‘vacation’ for a couple of years.  The choices were either to head back to New England to see family and friends (always a good option, though maybe not the. 160;  Taking pictures on the way out of Mexico City.  I really didn’t do it justice.  One of my favorite things about flying over the city was just how colorful it was....160; Lots of celebration, lots...

http://jonodonnell.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html

Bloggin' in tha 'Banks. Monday, January 23, 2006. In late July of 2005, we ventured to the Anderson Bluegrass festival in interior Alaska, where a few things became immediately apparent. First, Neville has some unique skills, like being able to hypnotize unsuspecting drifters under the guise of "peace.". While many there thought that Neville was performing his rendition of "I'm a little teapot.", he insists that he was simply deflecting attention from himself. Our good friend Lee. 5 being nonplussed at (...

Bloggin' in tha 'Banks. Friday, December 30, 2005. That is, in Fairbanks). Here's a quick summary of the latest from the 'banks:. Story # 1) Air quality in the North Star borough bottomed out on Wednesday, leading to the release of health warning by the local authorities. The cause: a complex interaction between the dreaded Fairbanks temperature inversion and high fuel costs (which has led more locals to burn wood which in turn, has led to more particulates in the air). Feliz and Bobby at the Harden's.

Attended BIOGEOMON conference (that’s, BIOGEOchemistry MONitoring) in. Where I presented a poster and hung out with many European scientists, many of whom have welcomed in the age of the male cropped pant (man-capri? Went to see Dear Nora. A celebration for carnivores following a successful fall hunting season. My personal favorite: the grilled sheep ribs curtesy of Lincoln and Julie. 2 After the Meat Party, we headed to the Marlin. Bloggin' in tha 'Banks. Monday, November 21, 2005. I’ve been an outsider to the world of dogs for most of my 27 years. While living at home with the O’Donnell clan, I was always told by my mother that we already have 7 kids and that clearly, we didn’t need anything else to take care of. A dog would lead to an increase in the intensity of housecleaning, so much so that cleanliness would mop the floor with godliness. As an adult, my aversion to owning a dog was borne largely out of selfishness. Awkard, ali...
