Outside the Box: Hmm, that's not in the textbook . . .

http://lcpsoutofbox.blogspot.com/2007/03/hmm-thats-not-in-textbook.html

Friday, March 02, 2007. Hmm, that's not in the textbook . . . If I had a dime for each time I have heard this from teachers. Don't get me wrong, they are only doing what they are accustomed to or the textbook is the only resource they may have! I took some time last week to visit some classrooms to see how instruction was engaging the students. I saw some really good things and yes I saw some kids sitting in desks staring at the textbooks while teachers read DIRECTLY from them! I stumbled across http:/ w...

Outside the Box: Connect Them With the World

http://lcpsoutofbox.blogspot.com/2006/10/connect-them-with-world.html

Entitled, Future Ready Students for the 21st Century. We can start by connecting them to the world. Making learning 'fun' and relevant in today's world is a difficult task, but global strategies and information literacy can help. I have started another blog - 21st Century and Global Education. The process and strategies for transfo...

Wednesday, January 31, 2007. Making the commitment to blog is daunting, but Henry Johnson’s visit to the State Board of Education meeting today has finally given me the impetus to do so. Dr Johnson has left his official position at the US Department of Education, but Chairman Lee invited him to drop by and give the SBE some information on the direction NCLB seemed to be taking in its reauthorization process. Here’s what Dr. Johnson told the Board:. Close the achievement gap. More options for parents.

Outside the Box: September 2006

http://lcpsoutofbox.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 12, 2006. I had some time to 'reconnect' with David Warlick's 2cents. Worth blog again and came across his posting about teaching kids the value of information. So how do we teach students to value information? I think that we must first come to value information ourselves. Teachers must explicitly and conspicuously practice information ethics every day, and this goes much deeper than merely adding citations to our handouts. What do we (the education institution) value?
