http://mostlynerdbutnotalways.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 13, 2015. Persied Meteor Shower 8/13/15. Tried to photograph the Persied Meteor shower last night. Only caught three before the high clouds wiped out the contrast of the night sky. Below is a timelapse video put together from the 1500 photos that I took. Monday, August 3, 2015. Save the Drammatus for your Mammatus. Taken from my driveway. Sensing a rare photo opportunity I grabbed my camera and headed toward the lake shore in the waning dusk. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Things I like: My...

Mostly Nerd (but not always): July 2015
http://mostlynerdbutnotalways.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. Last evening the Moon 2 days past New skirted a couple of degrees south of Venus. I left for work a little early and stopped by Ludington Harbor to photograph the pairing. Guide Number = (distance/f-stop) X (ISO/100) = 1790/5.6 X 400/100 = 2506. Here is a close-up view of the pairing taken with my 500 mm lens. With the similar geometry of both the Moon and Venus being between the Earth and Sun they share a similar backlit crescent shape. The Moon was 9% lit while Venus displaye...

Mostly Birds (but not always): August 2015
http://mostlybirdsbutnotalways.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 3, 2015. Save the Drammatus for your Mammatus. Last evening a line of intense thunderstorms accompanied by high winds (and even a tornado in Huron County) rolled across Michigan toppling trees and knocking out power to tens of thousands. I was awoken from my pre-work nap by my alarm clock as I had slept through the whole storm. Taken from my driveway. Sensing a rare photo opportunity I grabbed my camera and headed toward the lake shore in the waning dusk. Things in the sky. Things I like: ...

Mostly Birds (but not always): Old Yard Review
http://mostlybirdsbutnotalways.blogspot.com/2015/07/paradise-has-price-and-it-can-now-be.html
Tuesday, July 7, 2015. My one-third acre of paradise in Southgate has been sold. In my ten years at that suburban Detroit location I observed 140 species of birds. The best was the first and so far only Wayne County record Rufous Hummingbird that arrived November 7, 2011 and stayed until the 14th. All photos in this post were taken from the yard. The Rufous on fire. Best Loon shot from my yard. Cardinal photobombed by White-throated Sparrow. Northern Flicker and American Robin. Every September during the...

Mostly Nerd (but not always): Stormy Weather
http://mostlynerdbutnotalways.blogspot.com/2015/07/stormy-weather.html
Saturday, July 18, 2015. This morning I headed to the lake shore to try to photograph lightning from an approaching storm. Not a lot of flashes with the storm but I did get some time-lapse of the clouds and boaters. Below is a link to a video I uploaded to youtube. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Short Attention Span Gamer: Keep It Stipple Stupid
http://shortattentionspangamer.blogspot.com/2013/01/keep-it-stipple-stupid_5.html
Short Attention Span Gamer. Where my miniature games and hobby projects go to die. Saturday, January 5, 2013. Keep It Stipple Stupid. But how to go about it? It was such an effective technique that when my brother wanted some blood splatter on the arms of his Mr. Graves. he asked me to show him how it’s done. Great, I can make a tutorial out of it. For Mr. Graves, he has just given someone the beating of their life leaving his fist bloodied, forearms spattered, and a some will have gotten on his cris...
