MOODY MOVIES: LIKE CRAZY ****
http://moodymovies.blogspot.com/2012/08/like-crazy.html
Friday, 24 August 2012. LIKE CRAZY * *. USA: Drake Doremus, 2011. Having heard mixed reviews about LIKE CRAZY despite its festival acclaim (winning the 'Grand Jury Prize' at Sundance) I wasn't sure what to expect from director Drake Doremus' film. The Count's Verdict: Possibly not for everyone and even with its flaws LIKE CRAZY repays the viewer what you put in. At its best LIKE CRAZY has moments where images and sound combine to resonate in a deeply emotive way. One of my genuine surprises of th...Movie...

MOODY MOVIES: DETENTION ***
http://moodymovies.blogspot.com/2012/08/detention.html
Sunday, 26 August 2012. USA: Joseph Kahn, 2011. Now I like a movie or cultural reference as much as the next man and this film delivers them in spades - in fact I don't mind admitting I probably missed more than I got - but there's always the danger of that self-reflexiveness becoming something akin to visual and aural noise. Thankfully, DETENTION has some likeable characters, impressive digital effects and the odd gory death to safe it from the void. Labels: 2012 (UK) Releases. Subscribe to Moody Movies.

Flickers from the Cave: November 2014
http://flickersfromthecave.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 22, 2014. Episode 55 - Miss Jackson if you're Naschy. Episode 55 is totally focused on the Spanish film legend Paul Naschy. We chose three of his films, 1972's The Werewolf Vs The Vampire Woman. 1973's The Mummy's Revenge. To get a sampling of his work in genre films. After talking at some length about those three, we turn our attention to a magnificent documentary about Mr. Naschy, 2010's The Man Who Saw Frankenstein Cry. You can also leave a message on the Facebook. 084 - Freaky 2015.

Flickers from the Cave: March 2015
http://flickersfromthecave.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 29, 2015. Episode 62 - Rich, Chocolatey, Evil-Teens. Outcast, misunderstood and bullied teens summon the power of pure EVIL. To reap sweet revenge on their tormentors. The unbelievable range of expressions Clint Howard. Can achieve with his incredibly elastic face. Way more teenage boys in the shower. Than you ever wanted to ( I guess that last one is up to personal preference, to each their own). Coming in next, we delve into Evilspeak. And a cast packed with "hey, it's that guy! Is your f...

Flickers from the Cave: Episode 65 - Flickers from the Backroads
http://flickersfromthecave.blogspot.com/2015/05/episode-65-flickers-from-backroads.html
Sunday, May 24, 2015. Episode 65 - Flickers from the Backroads. We are heading back into the woods this time, for some demon-whiskey. And fast driving. We focus on two movies from the 70's that have moonshine-making at their core. The first is 1976's Dixie Dynamite. With a great cast including Christopher George. And show-favorite Warren Oates. The titular "Dixie" is played by the stunning Jane Anne Johnstone. We follow this up with 1975's Moonrunners. Written and directed by Gy Waldron. 084 - Freaky 2015.

Flickers from the Cave: April 2015
http://flickersfromthecave.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 12, 2015. Episode 63 - When You Wish Upon Z'Dar. Welcome back to the cave everyone for episode 63! This one is a bit of a sad occasion unfortunately, as we are remembering the late Robert Z'Dar. You may not know the name but you'll never forget the face. First up we look at 1987s The Night Stalker. A totally boiler plate tale of a crazed killer murdering prostitutes, it features Charles Napier. Playing the most unlikable screen detective icon since Mitchell. Next we look at William Lustig's.

MOODY MOVIES: ROGUE RIVER *½
http://moodymovies.blogspot.com/2012/08/rogue-river.html
Thursday, 23 August 2012. ROGUE RIVER *½. USA: Jourdan McClure, 2012. This was another FrightFest 2011 omission on my part (I was off in the Disco Screen watching Paul Naschy doc THE MAN WHO MADE FRANKENSTEIN CRY) and with heinsight, having now seen ROGUE RIVER , I can't say I regret skipping it. The problem is you simply don't care as it all feels so derivative and plodding. The writing and pace isn't the film's only flaw as fatally the lead, Michelle Page, lacks any discernible charisma or screen p...
