Angelsey, April 26/27. Prep was simple until I noticed that the cam was not quite as free turning as it should be. Traced it to the coupling sleeve that goes round the join in the cam drive shaft being too long and pushing against the circlips that stop it riding up or down. Anyway, thank goodness for carbide tooling as the case hardened sleeve is now about 1mm shorter and all is calmness and light with the cam drive train. Load, drive, park, sleep through howling gale. Not much to do, I thought, so it hung around in the garage, ignored, gathering dust. Finally got to it after Christmas. Drained the oil. Oops! Mentally list the bushes in the motor: crank oil feed, first gear, ignition idler, rocker spindles. Striped motor and find the first gear bush had melted. When I was assembling the bottom end with the new cam drive gears I discovered a small amount of play in the big end. I pondered long and hard, as it was only a tiny bit of play and surely it would last for another meeting, but sense won out.
