metasimian: eclipse + maven + EC2 = nirvana
http://blog.metasimian.net/2009/12/eclipse-maven-ec2-nirvana.html
Wednesday, December 16, 2009. Eclipse maven EC2 = nirvana. Ok, it has been a while between posts, but that is not to say that the monkeys haven't been busy. This next little experiment went very well, almost flawless. The idea was 'rapid development' by where a J2EE website could be built and deployed. Eclipse, Maven and Amazon EC2 to the rescue. I'll quickly walk through the steps, although I might not be able to add a lot of detail:. Prerequisites: Eclipse AWS toolkit M2Eclipse. Subscribe to: Post Comm...

metasimian: Amazon Web Services
http://blog.metasimian.net/2009/08/amazon-web-services.html
Sunday, August 23, 2009. I'm not sure what it was that brought me to their website, but recently I stumbled across Amazon Web Services. Amazon also provided a ton of documentation and tools (including a browser-based management console. And my favorites in Eclipse. Firefox), which makes it easy to get it up and running. So let's now get into the services:. Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). A basic scalable database. This one comes again with its own Eclipse plug-in. Simple Storage Service (S3). It is still an...

metasimian: April 2009

Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Is a great little idea to quickly start a web project. It provides templates to various frameworks and generates a working starting point for your project. It has two flavors: AppFuse1.0 which uses Ant and AppFuse2.0 which uses Maven. I've mentioned this before, but I like Maven and Eclipse's m2eclipse plugin and figured that I would go this route. With a quick-and-dirty install of MySQL using XAMPP. On top of it, I had a skeleton up in no time. I haven't quite figured out is tha...

metasimian: New maven-generated "site" documentation
http://blog.metasimian.net/2009/05/new-maven-generated-site-documentation.html
Thursday, May 7, 2009. New maven-generated "site" documentation. I recently worked on regenerating and updating the Maven "site" documentation. It still isn't perfect, but a little bit better than before. Problems that I am having are:. The site-deploy still creates a flat hierarchy, but the links expect the modules to be nested (ie: I have to manually move the sub-component directories into their proper hierarchy). Site stage is flat as well, but at least the links work. View my complete profile.

metasimian: January 2009
http://blog.metasimian.net/2009_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Cult coding practices: refactoring. Refactoring code is one of many techie software developer cult myths. The proposition is that any opportunity to refactor or redesign code should never be passed up. It is like passing up free money, refusing to bathe, littering - essentially acquiescing to disorder. But it can ultimately become obsessive-compulsive like picking scabs or sorting bills, and you are not sure if at the end things will be better, prettier, or just different.

metasimian: Google Analytics, bis.
http://blog.metasimian.net/2009/08/google-analytics-bis.html
Saturday, August 22, 2009. Google Analytics, bis. I thought I would give a quick update on how things are going with Google Analytics. I've been checking it semi-regularly and have had some pleasant surprises. Please remember that this is a side project. so don't laugh at the actual numbers ;-). This is the bottom half of the page. It seems that the appfuse-eclipse-maven. Page is the most popular. And in the Map Overlay, apparently most people come from the US. Insight is being read so far away. Conclusi...

Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Application from Apache and adds some functionality, namely the ability to display uncompressed ZLIB HTTP requests without interfering with the original data stream. I was surprised to find that the code from the original Apache tcpmon was so strung out - a lot of inner classes doing a lot of different things. I had to I know how tools are born, often as quick and dirty solutions to an immediate problem, so this isn't a complaint, just an observation. Extends HTTPOutputStreamWrap...

Saturday, August 22, 2009. Well, time to get back into this. I must apologize to those of you who read this for the recent neglect: summer vacation a new job has a tendancy to reprioritize things. Nevertheless, I haven't been idle. Hopefully the upcoming articles will compensate for my absence ;-). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Google Analytics, bis.
