Lets face it, his father was never going to love or accept him. The church does this quite wisely, by accepting the cast-offs of the tribe, it grows and grows in popularity. The so called “evil forest” doesn't do the trick after 28 days, which I think goes a long way to showing the natives that their pagan Gods are not real.

It is NOT in Okonkwo's character to just give up in defeat. He's a fighter, he should go out in a blaze of glory or something. That's just my opinion. I thought Obierika was taking a great risk by doing what he did. Yelling at a white man? I'm sure this could get him in great trouble. February 14, 2008 at 10:30 AM.

None of the cultural clan like him, after a few weeks of him, he suspended a woman from church for putting new wine in old bottles, WHAT does it matter? I think we are being shown the "Culture-clash" of the two faiths and value systems. Neither is right to do what they did as you said. The Town begins to fall apart too.

Sarah Wallace: "Crossing" from Lost Names
http://wallaceworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008/05/crossing-from-lost-names.html
Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Crossing" from Lost Names. I thought this first story was pretty interesting. It was not at all what I had been expecting though. I expected it to be kind of like Things Fall Apart. Where there are like mini stories that all tie together to make one novel. However, that doesn't seem to be the case for Lost Names. From what I understand, each story is about the same family, just at different times in their life. May 20, 2008 at 3:11 PM. Often in Asia, names are not used but instead...

World History: TGOST Ch. 9 & 10
http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-9-10.html
TGOST Ch. 9 and 10. Present day, Rahel is watching toads, yet another "small thing" as she thinks about the day that she, Estha, and Sophie Mol went to visit Velutha, and how good he treated them. She mentioned that he was nothing like the parents, that he did not judge them or anything. He was just himself, and he let everyone be themselves also. The "Small things" definitely reoccur throughout the novel. (toads, bugs, etc). June 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). TGOST ch 5 and 6.

World History: TGOST Ch. 7 & 8
http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-7-8.html
TGOST Ch. 7 and 8. There is a lot of talk about insects at the end of chapter 6 and the beginning of chapter 7. The author makes a note of a lot of the little things in the story, like bugs. I suppose that is why the book is called The God of Small Things. At the beginning of Chapter 7, Rahel is looking through Pappachi's study for things that her and Estha had when they were children. Estha just stands by the door and watches his sister. June 1, 2008 at 12:33 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
