betsy in belize: September 2012

Sunday, September 30, 2012. 1st Form Welcome Assembly. Form Welcome Assembly is fun for both the students and the teachers! Every class plans a performance to welcome the new students. It’s now a tradition that the volunteer teachers contribute a surprise performance of their own. My first year we dressed and acted like the students, making a classroom setting, and saying all the funny things we hear from them in class. Every Tuesday and Friday. We hear it, We fear it. That is how we know it’s begun.

Monday, April 29, 2013. A lot of Quick Takes. Alright, my apologies for not keeping up with the blogging since, well, before Easter. 1 How can I describe Holy Week and Easter in Benque Viejo del Carmen, Belize? GO BIG OR GO HOME! I love Holy Week and Easter here! 3 Along with the dog we...

Friday, September 6, 2013. Lots has been happening down here! Which is why I haven’t had time to post on the ole blog! John Paul II Jr. College is up and running! We currently have 30 students enrolled and we are quite happy with this number. By the grace of God we have 3 qualified teachers attempting the interesting task of providing 30 Belizean students with a Liberal Arts education. We kicked off the school year with our 1. Annual Outdoor Leadership Program. Is that normal camping food in Belize?

They love us and we hate them.). Here is the story of the Ants. At this point I can only hope it has a happy ending. I remember our first day here, we stopped moving beds, closets, and suitcases to drink water and I heard someone ask "Why are there all those ants by the front door? Although we've tried several th...
