Monolith Revisit | Mathew Otto Design
https://mathewotto.wordpress.com/2010/04/15/monolith-revisit
April 15, 2010 at 7:34 pm ( Uncategorized. After a look at what the first rendition on monolith was, I began to explore what it could become. While the first version of the lamp was over the top and the metaphor was too obvious. It was with this in mind, that I approached the next attempt. The goal being to create a lamp that hinted at an industrial and raw aesthetic without becoming niche and cliche. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public). Monthly Archives: June 2009. Hope is a four-letter word. June 26, 2009. This blew me away. Standing in the wake of this conversation, I’m filled with a new hope. How is this going to get better? Is it even possible? I’m a bit wary of the future, and a little skeptical. But there’s a chance, and an experience to back it up, that things will be excellent again. Which brings me to the design element: What makes you feel hopeful? What object or graphic gives you a spark of hope? One Page a Day. June 25, 2009.

Newer posts →. From the mouths of babes. July 23, 2009. So I went to camp for a week to counsel a gaggle of 11 to 14-year-olds who I found to be insightful, kind, and generally intelligent kids. (After I came home it made me want children for all of four days before I came to my senses.) I was leading a unit called “Art Explosion! For our project on the Renaissance, I asked them a simple question– What Would DaVinci Do? That, and I’d really, really want a Snackaroo.). July 20, 2009. Then what am I? Right...

Do good, be good. Frankly, my dear, you don’t know what you’re talking about. →. September 14, 2009. Well, this has taken too long, my apologies. Between computer issues and trying to work as much as i could (significantly more difficult working odd jobs through summer unemployment) I found SpeakDesign falling to the wayside. With all that out of the way, I would like to speak my mind on myself as a designer. Lets See If It Works Out. This entry was posted in Discourse. And tagged Mat Otto. Notify me of ...
It’s (not) just stuff. | Speak Design

Feel good about it. →. It’s (not) just stuff. July 29, 2009. I tried to post this last night– wordpress tells me it did. My computer says it didn’t. If it shows up as a repeat, my apologies. This is the tale of two homes and our responsibility as designers. Since Andy first informed me of emotional durability sometime this spring, it’s been in the back of my head with everything I buy and everything I own. What am I attached to, and why? How can you design things that people are more likely to love?

A Response to (forget about it). I am back. →. Do good, be good. August 15, 2009. What you design says a lot about who you are. I see my personal philosophies trickling into the things I design. Your Thoughts Please. | Speak Design

From the mouths of babes. It’s (not) just stuff. →. July 24, 2009. So it has been my goal this summer to continue my work even though school is not in session. I have recently made great progress on this one particular design which I am calling Love-Seat. As you can see it is not a love seat in the traditional sense, no cushion, no close (shared) proximal relationship, so on. So why do I call this A love seat? In closing, I would love to hear your thoughts about this design, topic, or both. They’re...

Monthly Archives: January 2010. Frankly, my dear, you don’t know what you’re talking about. January 7, 2010. It’s been a while, but I couldn’t think of anywhere better to post such a rant. People don’t care about what we do. Okay, that’s a gross generalization, but in the context of this rant it’s 100% true business. As a working designer (Ha! What do you think? 8221; which opened up an effing can of worms. (…okay. Small interjection first. This shouldn’t be a big deal, right? People immediately were giv...

April 15, 2010 at 7:43 pm ( Uncategorized. MODL (modular lighting) is a system of tiles that can be arranged into what is needed or desired by the final user. The form derives itself from micro biology, yet remains ubiquitous enough that each member of it’s audience can see something different. What one person sees as a jelly fish, another may see as ice. The Layers and 4 pronged sides add to the chaotic look of reproducing bacteria. April 15, 2010 at 7:34 pm ( Uncategorized. Being stuck here, I have dec...
