When I first fired up the new lights, they didn’t appear to be a lot brighter and had a definate blue look to them. However, when I started poking around in the tank with my PAR meter it was immediately apparent that the ATI fixtures and bulbs provide 2-3 times the PAR of the Nova Extreme Pro fixtures! 8211; 2″ below the surface are 650-680. 8211; 12″ below the surface are 300-350. 8211; sand level are 200-230. In the summer of 2004 we took a trip to Hawaii. I spent some time snorkling and, much to my surprise, I realized that the odd looking fish in the fish store were actually quite common in the ocean. I was amazed at the number and diversity of the marine life just under the surface of the water. My system consists of a number of tanks plumbed together resulting in a total system volume of 350-400 gallons. All of the equipment is in the basement. 2 x 40 gallon breeder tanks. True Percula Clownfish (2).

I recentely added a VorTech MP40w powerhead to my 180 gallon tank to increase water flow. I’ve always used cheap powerheads such as MaxiJet and SEIO pumps. While cheap pumps worked well enough, I had to have at least 4 of them to get proper water movement and they really are something of an eyesore hanging in the tank. Date : March 5, 2009.
