London 2009

Monday, May 18, 2009. Ferry on the Thames. We took the ferry from Kew gardens to Westminster pier. The boat ride took about an hour. We passed under many of London's bridges, all of them were different and interesting. The wisteria was blooming while we were there. London was at least 3 weeks ahead of Toronto. It was also time for the bluebells. They had acres of them planted in the grass. We only had time for a quick walk through the glasshouse. They had a walkway in the trees. We wanted to see a castle.

London 2009: Canada in London

http://www.londontrip2009.blogspot.com/2009/05/canada-in-london.html

Saturday, May 9, 2009. In Green Park we stumbled upon the Canada memorial. I wanted to slide down it too. I liked the maple leaves all over it. I think in the summer time it has water pouring down it. There was also a lovely Canada gate. Too bad we don't have nice gates like these in Canada. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). London 2009: Platform 9 3/4

http://www.londontrip2009.blogspot.com/2009/05/platform-9-34.html

Monday, May 11, 2009. As Harry Potter fans we had found out that they had 'something' at King's Cross Station for platform 9 3/4. We were passing through the station on the underground anyways, so we decided to get off and take a look around. After looking for quite a while, due to some construction and the fact that they put platform 9 3/4 in between platforms 8 and 9, we finally found it. It's a luggage cart bolted to the wall. Just for tourists like ourselves. What do you expect? Ferry on the Thames.

London 2009: London marathon

http://www.londontrip2009.blogspot.com/2009/05/london-marathon.html

Sunday, May 10, 2009. We hadn't realized we were in London on the same weekend as the London marathon. This is Saturday when they were setting up the finish line by Buckingham Palace. Fortunately the places we went to see on Sunday were not on the race route. It ran right along the river near most of the famous landmarks. We were up at the British museum that day. After lunch we came back to Buckingham Palace and saw some of the last finishers, the time clock reads 7 hours 12 minutes. Ferry on the Thames.

London 2009: Windsor castle

http://www.londontrip2009.blogspot.com/2009/05/windsor-castle.html

Monday, May 18, 2009. We wanted to see a castle. So we picked the biggest castle we could find. These are known as 'murder holes'. When an enemy is trying to attack the castle you can pour boiling oil down the holes to keep them away from the gates. The moat is now a lovely garden. This is the motto of the Order of the Garter. Which translates: 'Shame to him who thinks ill of it'. We had a very nice lunch at the Crooked House. It was very crooked. It was difficult to capture its crookedness in a photo.

London 2009: The British Museum

http://www.londontrip2009.blogspot.com/2009/05/british-museum.html

Monday, May 4, 2009. Rodney in front of the British museum. A photo of myself in front of the British museum. A few years ago we took a trip to Paris. When we returned home we discovered we did not have any photos of myself in Paris, because I am the one who always has the camera! We made sure that did not happen again this trip. The reading room had a special exhibit which we did not see. The exhibit covered all the bookshelves. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Click on photos for a larger view.

stockholm 2009: April 2009

http://acmstockholm.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 21, 2009. In the church on Gamla Stan was this statue of St. George and the Dragon. My kids love this story. It was interesting finding this statue considering St. George is an English saint. When we were in London it happened to be St. George's day. Inside this store they not only had Very Important Clothes, but they also had a good selection of taxidermied animals. The stuffed kitten in the window was a nice touch. You can see a bear's head on top of a rack in the photo. The white ship a...

Kids and Nature: Hepaticas

http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009/04/hepaticas.html

Monday, April 13, 2009. Today’s nature calendar. Search for opening buds of hepaticas. This task was easy since I have a sharp-lobed hepatica in my garden. The buds are almost open. I think they would be very difficult to find in the wild if they had not opened yet. Labels: april nature calendar. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I am a mom to 3 young children. Kids and Nature: Shrub branches

http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009/04/shrub-branches.html

Sunday, April 5, 2009. Today’s nature calendar. Place more shrub branches in water in the classroom. We are on our second set of flowering branches. The first set we tried were some forsythia branches from our backyard. They bloomed a beautiful yellow. We noted that the flowers came out first, and then the leaves. Crabapple blossoms on our kitchen table. Labels: april nature calendar. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. He's loud and friendly. He's 4 years old. Random books from...

Kids and Nature: January 2009

http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 20, 2009. In the first place, do not send them; if it is anyway possible, take them; for, although the children should be left much to themselves, there is a great deal to be done and a great deal to be prevented during these long hours in the open air. Charlotte Mason, Home Education Vol. 1 p. 43. Last week I tried to toss the kids in the backyard by themselves and this was the result:. My mitten fell off and I can't get up the stairs and why is my Mommy not coming to help me! He is a s...

stockholm 2009: Stockholm at night

http://acmstockholm.blogspot.com/2009/04/stockholm-at-night.html

Monday, April 20, 2009. The white ship at the left of the photo was a youth hostel. We didn't have a chance to go in the opera house, but we had dinner at a lovely small restaurant in the opera building on our last night. The parliment buildings. I didn't bring a tripod, as I didn't want to carry the extra weight. As I wandered around Old Town I placed my camera on any nearby post or sign to steady it for the slow shutter speed. I completely forgot about changing the ISO. Photos of our trip to London.

Kids and Nature: November 2008

http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 21, 2008. Gearing up for Winter Nature Study. The weather has turned a bit chilly around here. This week has been cold enough that I have needed to get out all of our winter outerwear in order for us to enjoy being outside. I wrote about this topic. At the end of February last year, this seems a more appropriate time. Here's a little fashion show from the Bluejay, showing how we keep warm:. Last year it took me approximately half an hour to suit everyone up to go outside. This year I...

Tuesday, January 19, 2010. I'm heading to China soon! In a few weeks I'm heading to China for our annual trip with the ACM-ICPC international collegiate programming contest. This year it is in Harbin, China, where the internationally acclaimed Ice and Snow Festival is taking place. Here is a link to photos taken last year. On the way home we'll stop in Beijing for a few days and take in the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. I've created a new blog. For my pictures of this trip. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

FIFTH and LAST DAY. Juny 16, 2015. THANK YOU VERY MU...

FIFTH…AND LAST DAY. 22 Juny, 2016. Ja som a casa! That’s all, folks! THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all of you! 16 Juny, 2016. Dear families, teachers and friends,.
