stockholm 2009: April 2009
http://acmstockholm.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 21, 2009. In the church on Gamla Stan was this statue of St. George and the Dragon. My kids love this story. It was interesting finding this statue considering St. George is an English saint. When we were in London it happened to be St. George's day. Inside this store they not only had Very Important Clothes, but they also had a good selection of taxidermied animals. The stuffed kitten in the window was a nice touch. You can see a bear's head on top of a rack in the photo. The white ship a...

Kids and Nature: Hepaticas
http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009/04/hepaticas.html
Monday, April 13, 2009. Today’s nature calendar. Search for opening buds of hepaticas. This task was easy since I have a sharp-lobed hepatica in my garden. The buds are almost open. I think they would be very difficult to find in the wild if they had not opened yet. Labels: april nature calendar. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I am a mom to 3 young children. http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009/04/shrub-branches.html
Sunday, April 5, 2009. Today’s nature calendar. Place more shrub branches in water in the classroom. We are on our second set of flowering branches. The first set we tried were some forsythia branches from our backyard. They bloomed a beautiful yellow. We noted that the flowers came out first, and then the leaves. Crabapple blossoms on our kitchen table. Labels: april nature calendar. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. He's loud and friendly. He's 4 years old. Random books from...

Kids and Nature: January 2009
http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 20, 2009. In the first place, do not send them; if it is anyway possible, take them; for, although the children should be left much to themselves, there is a great deal to be done and a great deal to be prevented during these long hours in the open air. Charlotte Mason, Home Education Vol. 1 p. 43. Last week I tried to toss the kids in the backyard by themselves and this was the result:. My mitten fell off and I can't get up the stairs and why is my Mommy not coming to help me! He is a s...

stockholm 2009: Stockholm at night
http://acmstockholm.blogspot.com/2009/04/stockholm-at-night.html
Monday, April 20, 2009. The white ship at the left of the photo was a youth hostel. We didn't have a chance to go in the opera house, but we had dinner at a lovely small restaurant in the opera building on our last night. The parliment buildings. I didn't bring a tripod, as I didn't want to carry the extra weight. As I wandered around Old Town I placed my camera on any nearby post or sign to steady it for the slow shutter speed. I completely forgot about changing the ISO. Photos of our trip to London.

Kids and Nature: November 2008
http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 21, 2008. Gearing up for Winter Nature Study. The weather has turned a bit chilly around here. This week has been cold enough that I have needed to get out all of our winter outerwear in order for us to enjoy being outside. I wrote about this topic. At the end of February last year, this seems a more appropriate time. Here's a little fashion show from the Bluejay, showing how we keep warm:. Last year it took me approximately half an hour to suit everyone up to go outside. This year I...

Kids and Nature: January 2010
http://kidsandnature.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 19, 2010. I'm heading to China soon! In a few weeks I'm heading to China for our annual trip with the ACM-ICPC international collegiate programming contest. This year it is in Harbin, China, where the internationally acclaimed Ice and Snow Festival is taking place. Here is a link to photos taken last year. On the way home we'll stop in Beijing for a few days and take in the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. I've created a new blog. For my pictures of this trip. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
