Sunday, April 24, 2011. On Becoming a "Healer". Recently I spoke with a friend, a psychiatrist, a spiritual person, who asked if I envisioned myself as a "healer". He was asking both whether I thought I healed people and whether I saw my own role within that venerable tradition. I thought for a bit, and had to acknowledge, I did. To what abilities did I attribute the capacity to heal, he asked. After pausing to reflect I said, the ability to listen and capacity to say something interesting and helpful.
