Tantalizing aromas from my kitchen. When life gives you peaches: Peach Phirni. October 2, 2007. How, just how could I not experiment with peaches as fresh as these. I had to save up some specially to make this phirni. After my first ever post. 3 cups of Organic Milk (I used 2%). 1 cup of raw Almonds. Serve ch...

Where I am going the whole family is going. We are moving. We are moving back to INDIA! I’ll be back as soon as I can with tidbits from India. Wish all of you happy and healthy cooking!

One of the biggest pleasures of being back in India? The FOOD. And the best part of it is that you get it even without moving a finger. Like when your mother cooks it. For you. Or like when somebody just drops in, because they were *in the area*, and gets steaming hot Batata Wada. After all. :) What Vee. Host for this month, says here. And hey, I ...

The sorry story of the uttappam. October 6, 2007. Posted by C Y Gopinath in Food. The uttappam was feeling threatened by globalization. Why does the pizza look like me? What should I do? C Y Gopinath counsels. It was a humid day. The sort that dampens all urges towards food. Ahem, it cleared its throat. I was wondering if you could help me. I said nothing. It’s about the pizza, it continued. What about the pizza? Trouble started, said the uttappam, when the Udipi restaurant owner began to sprinkle Amul c...

The snap is not exactly fresh, though. I have not been blogging, I know. And no, it's not the New Boss. So, what did I do? I just packed off the old husband to a faraway country, to the land of 'Sahib'. I wouldn't let anything or ANYBODY come between my blog and me, you see. (For fellow Hindi film buffs:. It's all about licking your fingers. :). Tuesday, December 19, 2006. The Unbeatable Root # 1 : Beetroot Tomato Cucumber Raita. A lifebuoy in a boat? One big misconception that got cleared in mind about two years back is that beetroot contains lots of iron. Just like almost everybody else around me, I too used to think beetroot would be a great weapon against Anaemia. But nope, it isn't. It has lots of goodness in it, but no iron. Like it has Folate. No doubt. My own recipe. 1 cup fresh yogurt, beaten.

A chip of the old Nayak. June 28, 2007. Posted by C Y Gopinath in Food. In a clear case of judicio-culinary activism, C Y Gopinath. Is put on trial for declaring Rama Nayak’s wafers to be the best in the universe as we know it. Yes, M’lud, I am reasonably certain that it was not an Indoor Locker. All I ask, before this august court sentences me to a lifetime of dry dum aloo with no spices, is a chance to defend myself. By human hands every little inch of the way. One the day that I took it upon myself to...
