Kash Kong James: January 2011
http://kashkongjames.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Friday, 28 January 2011. Location research: Waterloo, Southbank and London Bridge. Today, our group went to various places in London to do location research for our project, so that we can find the best places to produce an effective parkour chase sequence and also, to help us storyboard and visualise the project. If you look at the architecture around Southbank, many of the designs are very rigid in shape but also have some curved corners. Many even have floors that are larger in width than others&#...

Kash Kong James: Compositing the green screen in After Effects
http://kashkongjames.blogspot.com/2011/03/compositing-green-screen-in-after.html
Wednesday, 16 March 2011. Compositing the green screen in After Effects. When it came to the post production stage of this project, I put myself forward to do the green screen parts which happen right at the end of the piece, when our protagonist (Richard is his name) gets cornered in an underground parking area. This would involve a mixture of moving and static camera shots. Here is the original green screen footage:. Here is the rendered close up of the green screen. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Kash Kong James: Blocking out
http://kashkongjames.blogspot.com/2011/03/blocking-out.html
Tuesday, 15 March 2011. Each of us was required to produce three 3D blockouts of various shots within the piece. This was required to make sure that the lighting and in the CG footage matched that of the lighting in the live action. The lighting and shadowing is going to be an important factor in determining how effectively our swamp monster blends in with the rest of the scene. Here are the screenshots of my attempts at recreating two shots. I showed these to my team mate, Matt. I am a Character Animato...

Kash Kong James: Richard drops
http://kashkongjames.blogspot.com/2011/03/richard-drops.html
Thursday, 17 March 2011. Another shot that I was given to composite was a shot of Richard dropping from a massive jump down a flight of stairs. Producing this composition involved layering a green screen shot of Richard jumping from a chair, with a CG shot of the staircase and floor that he eventually lands on. Here is the green screen footage and a rendered close up of the staircase. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Compositing the creature: Shot 19. Compositing the creature: Shot 6.

Kash Kong James: Compositing the creature: Shot 19
http://kashkongjames.blogspot.com/2011/03/compositing-creature-shot-19.html
Saturday, 26 March 2011. Compositing the creature: Shot 19. The second shot that I was required to composite was the 19th shot of the piece; this largely involved applying shadows to the scene, so that the creature would blend in with the various shades. Here is the original live action footage. In order to integrate this creature into this footage, I opened the 3D blockout that was lighted by Matt and had the creature animated by Will. I scaled down the rendered sequences of both the creature and shadow...

http://jamespwaters.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Friday, 20 July 2012. So I passed my degree. With a 2:1. I am pretty happy about that result. Now I just need to look for a job; I've handed out CVs to everyone that I can think of, but I have also applied for a few runner jobs and a few character animator jobs. I hope I don't have to wait long before getting a job. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Subscribe to updates from my blog. So I passed my degree. Useful and interesting links. Creating a sky in Maya. James Waters: Blog: August 2012
http://jamespwaters.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 7 August 2012. 11 Second Club Entry so far. So I filmed myself reciting the lines for this month's 11 Second Club competition and I chose the best poses from each time I recited the lines. I put those together into one video file, that I used as reference for the old man character. I like it so far but I still have a lot of work to do. In the mean time, I have posted it to this forum to get some initial feedback: http:/ www.11secondclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php? Saturday, 4 August 2012. However, ...

James Waters: Blog: June 2012
http://jamespwaters.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Friday, 15 June 2012. So long, Ravensbourne 2008-2012. Well, as of today I cease to be a student. This week has been particularly euphoric as we have just had our degree show, Ravensbourne2012. And I am proud to be able to say that the Animation show was a MASSIVE success and that our tutors have actually told us that this was the best year that Animation has ever seen in terms of both films and of course, the arrangement of degree show space that we had. In case you haven't been following my BA Blog.
