Who | Learning & growing
http://www.johnnydouglas.org/about
I’ve paper-journalled since 2000 and these journals prop up my shelves. This is my online blogging effort! Journey with me, comment and connect,. I long to be all that God has made me to be. This is just a little outpost of some of my thoughts, and I hope it helps, if only in part. There’ll be bundles of links in magpie-style, some reflections, devotionals and perhaps a series here. I grew up in Northern Ireland, but have come to make home, wherever I lay my head. Feel free to take it up with me!

8220;Your ministry doesn’t need the flair of your inflated ego;. Rather, it is your authenticity that will most effectively motivate those you serve in leadership. And that genuineness is most often communicated in a soft tone that has no relation to bravado. A well- reasoned argument that can be coupled with passion to get the attention of internal and external constituencies, and a caring and gracious spirit that attracts around it people ready to listen and respond.” Roger Parrott. 8221; Great stuff.

8220;If you’re not outmatched by the task and desperate for His power, the water you’re standing in might be too shallow.”. 1 Functional unbelief is a dynamic near to us all. Worth engaging with. 2 Despite much persuasion from Julie, I’m not a kindle-man. Michael offers comment! 3 Gender, leadership and the church, David Capener’s take. 4 Four rings: brilliantly composed here. Important stuff. 5 Perspectives from the pew, for those who preach! 5 June, 2015. Your email address will not be published.

8220;Many Christians estimate difficulty in the light of their own resources, and thus they attempt very little and they always fail………. Listening for Audio…. Poem: Baby has a cold. Baby has a cold; watery eyes,. Staccato cough. Cough. Baby has a cold;. Mucus covered lullabies, halt. The night-light dim dimming in the day,. And bunny lies lonely by his head. Baby has a cold;. Baby’s in bed. Out of bed, in my arms. Baby cries. Red eyes, Rosie cheeks. Shiny nose. Red nose. Crusty nose. Baby has a cold. I thought it a shame, as you click clicked. That you missed the warmth of a small body,. And the softest hair at his nape. He is sending me.
Hello Ash Wednesday | Listening for Audio…

Listening for Audio…. Excuse the reflective mood. Lent. Starts today, so it’s got me thinking a bit more about others. I stumbled across this while flicking through Pinterest. Very much the theme for my life at the moment, my new job working for ASLAN. Putting pen to paper again (ok, tapping on keys) with HJ. 8211; it seems a lot is being shuffled into perspective! I’ve been openly confronted by some who ask ‘why. I give something up? 8217; Well, if you don’t want to, don’t! Click to print (Opens in new ...

Listening for Audio…. They walked slowly out of the building; through its long shadows, down the stark white steps and into the sunshine. It was only then he realised how chilled the stone had been, and how muffled the sound as it’d bounced around the cavernous architecture. He glanced up at the arch as they came out under it. The building seemed to glow in the sunshine. The sky a blue back-drop. In any other circumstance, he may have paused to appreciate it more. But, what do you say? His attention was ...
Marking the way: January 2011
http://markingtheway.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, 27 January 2011. Well, now we're on to the life of David in our Bible reading programme. And it's a bit of a whistle stop tour. But one of the interesting things about David is that he has a clear promise of what God is going to do, from when Samuel anoints him as King; but getting there is long, drawn out, dangerous and at times looks highly unlikely. Labels: Bible reading programme. Saturday, 22 January 2011. What do Moses and Abraham have in common? Labels: Bible reading programme. Well, so ...

Marking the way: November 2010
http://markingtheway.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Monday, 22 November 2010. Having said that, the heritage and the surroundings I think can be a mixed blessing, creating an illusion of significance for the UK which is maybe just not appropriate in the 21st century; and becoming a "bubble" for the politicians at Westminster, remote from everyday life in towns like Dartford. Labels: church and society. Thursday, 18 November 2010. In the New Year, at WCF we are planning a whole church Bible reading programme to tie in with the Biblefresh. Welcome to my blo...
Jody Stowell: An Ordinary Radical Event

An Ordinary Radical Event. As we head into the New Year, it is very easy to forget the controversy and explosive events of last year with regards to the Synod debacle over women bishops - and some other controversies have, of course, overtaken our thinking in recent days, which I will look to write on soon. But I encourage you to read the following, which is an extended version of my article published today in the Church Times. It unpacks some of what I believe to be at the heart of the matter. In other ...

Musings on life and faith, over a pint. Bryan Berghoef is a pastor, writer, and pub theologian. And author of the book, Pub Theology: Beer, Conversation, and God. He insists that good things happen when we sit around the table together and talk about things that matter, and what better setting than at the pub, over a pint. Bryan has been facilitating weekly pub conversations for the past six years, recently in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC. And currently in Holland. I just stumbled acr...

Marking the way: Tales from Tanzania

Wednesday, 27 April 2011. It will take you to a video from Kenyan national TV about it. But equally, it serves as a reminder to pray for those of our African brothers and sisters in positions of responsibility who do. Discernment needed, methinks. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A snowy Sunday…. Today #snowstoppedplay and it was a little bit gutting to have weather affect our last full Sunday at Emmanuel. Some great preaching ideas were on the slate, and lots of you asked,…. So here’s my full notes and slides. The Apostle Paul’s awesome finish and motivation for Timothy was what I sought to work with this morning – life and death, meaning and calling, faith and reward impacted me in a whole new way. Here’s my my preaching notes. Again here’s my preaching notes. 10 December, 2017.
