What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!: Cateran Ultra - Race report........Take 3
http://keithainslie.blogspot.com/2015/05/cateran-ultra-race-reporttake-3.html
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Tuesday, 26 May 2015. Cateran Ultra - Race report.Take 3. My first time running the Cateran Trail Ultra. And my 3rd attempt at writing a blog post about my experience. Take 1 was just a disaster, I just couldn't get going. Take 2 was so rigidly awful,in the "I did this, then I did that" genre, even I was bored reading it. So here goes with Take 3. Photo by Amanda Hamilton. There were an army of helpers and marshals from Sandra. In the first half, both of whom fin...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!: January 2015
http://keithainslie.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Wednesday, 28 January 2015. Out of my comfort zone - Feel the Burns Hill race. I could tell this race was a proper hill race as soon as I drove into the car park at Selkirk rugby club! The distinctive hill runner body shape stands out, wiry, lean and with huge calf muscles add in the 1970's style running shorts and a complete absence of flashy trainers and you get the idea. I felt like a hippo at a ballet dancing contest! Wrong, wrong, wrong. Donning my usual Ult...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!: D33 Ultra - 2015
http://keithainslie.blogspot.com/2015/03/d33-ultra-2015.html
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Thursday, 19 March 2015. D33 Ultra - 2015. For the uninitiated the 6. Running of the Deeside way 33 mile race took place last weekend, widely known as the D33 this event sees participants run from Duthie Park in Aberdeen to Banchory and back, a distance of 33 miles. It’s both an ideal event for noobies looking to make the step up to Ultra distance races and as a training run for the longer Highland Fling and West Highland Way races. So my race plan evolved as.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!: Edinburgh Marathon 2014
http://keithainslie.blogspot.com/2015/06/edinburgh-marathon-2014.html
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Monday, 8 June 2015. This would be my 4th running of the Edinburgh Marathon, my 5th race in 5 weeks and standing conventional training and recovery wisdom on its head my 5th marathon or Ultra in just under 4 months. I'd managed to pick up a relatively late charity place, running for Cancer Research UK so my main objective was focussed on fundraising rather than on time, although I still wanted to finish in a time I wouldn't be embarrassed about. My appointed star...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!: April 2015
http://keithainslie.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Monday, 27 April 2015. Hoka Highland Fling 2015 - running 8 steps at a time. My 4th consecutive year of running this incredible event which RD John Duncan has built into the largest Ultra in Scotland, so a well practiced Ainslie routine for race weekend itself. Oh how we seasoned veterans laughed. If you've followed my earlier musings at Malta Marathon. Milngavie - Drymen - Balmaha - Rowardennan. Andy, Caroline and me looking like the twat in the hat. Ian Anderso...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!: May 2014
http://keithainslie.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Monday, 5 May 2014. Hoka Highland Fling 2014. False starts, distractions, sudden stops, fatigue, lack of mojo and it took forever. No not the race itself, but the process of writing the post-race blog! Whilst I turned up OK and ran the race well (by my standards) I just could not get my thoughts committed to paper. So after several false starts and not entirely unconnected to having to work Bank holiday Monday, when all our customers don’t, here goes. For that ph...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!: July 2014
http://keithainslie.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Thursday, 31 July 2014. Montane Lakeland 50 Race. Eventually managing to run from Chapel Stile to Coniston only the weekend before the actual event, on the plus side at least that section would be fresh in my mind! Driving down from Dumfries on the Friday I listened to the Commonwealth Games on the radio, the really upbeat vibe adding to my general mood of “I’m up for this”. I quickly pitched my tent and headed over to register, with my fully packed and bulging r...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!: November 2014
http://keithainslie.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Thursday, 6 November 2014. Although I'd built a long weekend in Berlin around the race, you'll be glad to hear I'm not going to bore you with tales of my tourist efforts I'm going to stick to the race related information just in case you're tempted to enter Berlin yourself. Oh who am I kidding, its a brilliant race, don't fanny around just enter it, you'll love it. There were ample water stations, all on the right hand side (water in cups) and after the first cou...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!: Lakeland 50 2015
http://keithainslie.blogspot.com/2015/07/lakeland-50-2015.html
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Monday, 27 July 2015. I've been a bit quiet lately from a blog perspective, I ran a couple of local races but nothing that stood out enough to make me hit the keyboard, all that changed at the weekend though with my second attempt at the Montane Lakeland 50. I ran last year, finishing in 12:10:40, just happy to finish the event and still be upright, this year I was hoping for a half decent PB. We arrived on site around 4pm which gave ample time to pitch our tent,...

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!: March 2015
http://keithainslie.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Friday, 27 March 2015. I suppose I was still flushed with the smell of success the day after the D33 so when a chum suggested that Andy B and I take part in the local Criffel Hill race it seemed like a smashing idea. Fast forward 7 days and I'm the Village of New Abbey with a gaggle of wraith-like hill runners signing up to tackle the 6 or so miles and 569 metres of ascent and descent. One of the less muddy bits! Coming across the saddle and tackling the last cli...
