An English Travel Writer*. Monday, 26 March 2018. Oh heck, if I don't get this posted it'll be April. And I hope the weather will be better then! Since I last posted we have had more snow, which was quite pretty, and we also stayed in a particularly beautiful part of Staffordshire - Consall Forge. Not far from Stoke on Trent. At Consall the woods were beautiful in a wintry way but there was very little sign of Spring. I was struck by the almost fluorescent green of the moss on the trees. But another frie...

An English Travel Writer*. Malta - the Regatta in Senglea. MALTA The Regatta at Senglea. Today, Senglea's flags fly boldly against a dazzlingly blue sky, and its golden fortifications tower high above. Now the race is about to begin. The crowds are gathered so thickly they’re almost falling in to the sea. Across the bay in. Does modern health and safety have to raise its boring head even here? Someone has won. Is it Senglea? http://jennywoolftravel.blogspot.com/2015/05/fuengirola.html

An English Travel Writer*. Tuesday, 26 May 2015. I appreciated all your comments on Palmyra. Have you noticed that this amazing city has actually been written about quite a lot, so it seems the eyes of the world are turned anxiously towards it, and its significance for all of us. I'm just hoping, and also stopping myself from checking the news too much. And even more of one to find good restaurants, interesting shops, flowers, and a general air of brightness and cleanliness. It's probably nicer at this ti...

An English Travel Writer*. A Long Weekend in Durham. A LONG WEEKEND IN DURHAM. A massive HD television and loads of biscuits! So, after he'd had his fill of telly and biscuits, we set off to see what we could see. And of course, one of the best attractions was right on the doorstep. The Beamish Open Air Museum has a three-hundred-acre site on which several convincing historic settlements and landscapes are re-created from genuine redundant buildings or built around existing ones. There's also a little 19...

*An English Travel Writer*: Which Way?

http://jennywoolftravel.blogspot.com/2015/08/which-way.html

An English Travel Writer*. Sunday, 2 August 2015. Sorry for the silence and I hope everyone's having a good summer! I am in a very thoughtful mood at the moment and not feeling like writing, but I'll be back soon. The picture, by the way, was taken on the border of Italy and Slovenia, just outside Trieste. I didn't have any idea where ANY of these destinations were, so of course it didn't matter which way I went! 2 August 2015 at 19:18. Looks like the picture illustrates your state of mind? Be good to se...

*An English Travel Writer*: Palmyra

http://jennywoolftravel.blogspot.com/2015/05/palmyra.html

An English Travel Writer*. Saturday, 16 May 2015. So although I don't usually do long posts, forgive all these pictures. I want to show you what it was like when we went to Palmyra in February 2011, when many people thought the Syrian tourist industry was on the verge of opening up to more people. As it was, there were few independent travellers, and we had Palmyra almost entirely to ourselves. Very quickly, the first fierce light of the sun appeared, the Roman columns silhouetted against its vivid glow.

wiki-weird II | talking about the Lewis Carroll Myth

https://carrollmyth.wordpress.com/2010/08/27/wiki-weird-ii

Talking about the Lewis Carroll Myth. We’ve been fatally distracted from this blog by our Other Lives, but someone (thank you JedO) just told us about a little something on Wiki we had to pass on. Of course Lewis Carroll’s Wikipedia page is prone to outbursts of Tourette’s at the best of times, with whole sections being replaced with pithy legends such as ‘. He was a wanker. 8216;, and ‘. His family were all donuts. 8216; , but here’s a recent addition. A little more literate that doesn’t. That poor Carr...

Talking about the Lewis Carroll Myth. Your comments on the Wasp. A lot of responses to the Wasp post, so we thought we’d add a small follow-up looking at some of the points raised. I do not believe it has never been scrutinized. I think I read somewhere the type had been examined and it was genuine, can anyone confirm that? Arch fraud-buster, who said the typeface would have to be examined under magnification for any worthwhile results. Any typeface experts out there who can confirm or refute that? You’d...

Georgia Girl With An English Heart: Pineweed- Yellow Blossoms Like Star Jewels

http://georgiagirlwithanenglishheart.blogspot.com/2015/07/pineweed-yellow-blossoms-like-star.html

Georgia Girl With An English Heart. Monday, July 27, 2015. Pineweed- Yellow Blossoms Like Star Jewels. The pineweed is in bloom! Pineweed, Hypericum gentianoides. Has tiny yellow star-like flowers and they are so small that they can be easily overlooked. Against the grey rock of our local monadnocks, like Stone Mountain, Panola Mountain and Arabia Mountain, they are like small jewels. My car said 106 degrees today.). See the photos above? I must admit, it does sound nice with his accent.). And you can ev...

Talking about the Lewis Carroll Myth. Well, we’ve been told those changes to Wiki we talked about were actually made by one of the authors mentioned – who has now taken down the reference to the. Been written by the author named we would have approached it in a less satirical way, and we’re sorry for that. But we have to admit we are if anything even more baffled by the whole business! Georgia Girl With An English Heart: April 2015

http://georgiagirlwithanenglishheart.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Georgia Girl With An English Heart. Thursday, April 30, 2015. My Dad called me today and was most excited about seeing a bird on his deck. It's got a black head, and it's white underneath and the red on the front is like a bib, and that red is the PRETTIEST red that you have ever seen! Do you know what it is? My Dad knows I know my birds! And I also read that their song is like an American robin's but more melodious, as if a robin had taken singing lessons! Stay young, no matter what your age! Also, Shar...

http://georgiagirlwithanenglishheart.blogspot.com/2013/10/hearts-busting-with-love.html

Georgia Girl With An English Heart. Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Recently, on the same day of the special wildflower planting day (which I still need to do a post about, I am remembering), I felt that I just HAD to get over to the trail at Panola Mountain which is the rock outcrop trail.and I am so glad that did! It was midday and there was a shaft of sunlight filtering through the trees and it was as if a special spotlight was shining upon this. Anything stopped you in your tracks lately? Georgia Girl With An English Heart. Sunday, May 31, 2015. View from Arabia Mountain.you would never guess we are just a few miles from a MAJOR interstate highway! The coreopsis is blooming! The nicest thing about this beautiful yellow flower, it not only grows on our local "mountains", it also grows on the roadsides.I wonder how many notice it? We have seen it all over the county here, you just have to pay attention! Mmmmis this lance leaf coreopsis or is it mouse ear coreopsis? Holy Mary, mother of God,.

Georgia Girl With An English Heart: London - The Hardy Tree - Where's Kay?

http://georgiagirlwithanenglishheart.blogspot.com/2015/07/london-hardy-tree-wheres-kay.html

Georgia Girl With An English Heart. Tuesday, July 21, 2015. London - The Hardy Tree - Where's Kay? When I looked at more photos of this, the black fencing in the churchyard grounds at St. Pancras looked very familiar to me. The Beatles were photographed there on July 28, 1968 to promote the single "Hey Jude" and the White Album. (It was really their album entitled "The Beatles" but since it had a solid white cover, everyone called it "The White Album"! You know those "Where's Waldo" books? Ive read a cou...

As we approach the end of 2016, I thought I'd use this blog to pause and reflect on the year. To be honest, it's been a tough year in the Woolsey household. Maybe your year has been a hard one too.
