A little bit of self-sufficient(ish) land loving in Suffolk. Tuesday, 12 May 2009. The very first strawberry! Ha ha yes indeed. On a brief mission to ensure the pesky wind we've experienced for the last few days had not undone the patchwork puzzle of landscape fabric that I laid at the weekend (for compost and mulch deliveries - perhaps I'll elaborate on this sometime), I almost passed this little beauty. And made nom noises (protests? Hmmmmm maybe it wasn't quite ripe yet - oooopsie! Composting scheme a...

Making the most of your green plants. Green houseplants make a wonderful addition to any home but sometimes they can be left to languish in a dark corner as they gather dust. With a little care and attention they can make a wonderful focal point. Presenting your green plants. Houseplants should be presented as part of your interior decorations – brightening up room or office – rather than simply something to stick on a shelf. Epipremnum aureum, also known as the Pothos, Silver Vine takes on a rustic qual...

Naturally Laws: Jim's dutty pizza dogs recipe

A little bit of self-sufficient(ish) land loving in Suffolk. Friday, 6 November 2009. Jim's dutty pizza dogs recipe. I quite like the idea of eating one of these on a baguette! Ive a new recipe for you to try, btw. Its Jims Bum-Burning Buffalo Dog! You take a hot dog, roll it in Buffalo Wing sauce (spicy), then roll it in flour, fry it in a wee bit of oil so it gets a little crisp on the outside. Place in bun, top with more buffalo sauce, Blue Cheese dressing, and thin slices of celery. Delicious!
Naturally Laws: Snow-tastic!!
http://naturallylaws.blogspot.com/2010/03/snow-tastic.html
A little bit of self-sufficient(ish) land loving in Suffolk. Saturday, 13 March 2010. What a great winter we had! A real, proper chilly - dare I say 'brass monkeys' affair! See Andrew enjoying the blizzard! Shed - still standing! The ever hardy leeks - survived a troublesome munching by Leek moth caterpillars and then all. The heavy snow and frost and ice. All eaten now - and very good they were too! Sooooo glad I didn't pull them all up in despair! A view across the allotment site at almost dusk.

A little bit of self-sufficient(ish) land loving in Suffolk. Wednesday, 17 June 2009. The very first spuds! There was also a bit of wire worm damage (those orangey yellow critters that hatch into click beetles) but really, none of these conditions will render them inedible. In fact, I scoffed some tonight, lightly dressed in a vinegarette made with a glug of oil, a splash of lemon juice and a dollop of whole grain mustard. Deliciously decadent - so tender and creamy! And the geraniums. I recently add...

Tag Archives: cottage garden. September 30, 2015. My attitude towards orange and yellow is changing. Every year I mellow a little and let a bit more into the garden. Steve is a big fan of rudbekia. I wasn’t keen at first, but they do suit the softer September and October light. Rudbekia and verbena bonariensis pair well. The verbena’s gone haywire this year. More on that next time. This spring I bought a packet of helichrysum hendrix seed from Higgledy Garden. Benjamin says helichrysum hendrix come in.

A little bit of self-sufficient(ish) land loving in Suffolk. Wednesday, 23 March 2011. Before it's too late, my reflection causes me to pause and really observe what's happening on my wall, and sure enough it is teeming with insects - mostly ladybirds, who are easily visible amongst the red dead nettle and chickweed engaged in what can only be described as a bug orgy! July 5, 2011, 7:46 pm. We had (and will continue to have) sauteed broccoli rabe for dinner! So good. I can’t believe it when I read that it is an “acquired taste”. I spent about 3 hours at the garden this weekend weeding. We need a new hoe… the last one broke. Because of that, I couldn’t do ALL the weeding I wanted… but got a lot done nevertheless. Tomatoes. looking good! Several blossoms and a couple actual tomatoes. Cucumbers- including a baby cuke! Green beans. still only eh. June 23, 2011, 1:45 pm.
