Muir madness: July 2006
http://make-mine-muir.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 23, 2006. I gotta know . The company manual probably doesn't cover this. It's the perfect public relations storm. The utility bill arrives. It's $200, almost triple what it was last month. The mercury rises to 112. And the power goes out for three hours between 3 and 6 pm. I'm sorry, PG&E, but I would not want to be the guy who explains what happened to me on Saturday. I don't know the embryo woman and what's the difference if it's 92 degrees or 90 degrees? Both will be gone while I'm backpa...

Muir madness: After the hike ...
http://make-mine-muir.blogspot.com/2006/09/after-hike.html
Monday, September 25, 2006. After the hike . I've been back a month now since I walked 78 miles on the John Muir Trail. Photographer Mark Crosse and I walked more than 15 miles on the last day. We had this magnificent glow when we reached the four-wheel drive for the ride home. I have to write about the glow - the one you get coming out of a long-term backpack through a place as wild and remote as the Sierra backcountry in Kings Canyon National Park. I went to bed after talking an hour with my wife, who ...

Muir madness: Real life is enough
http://make-mine-muir.blogspot.com/2006/07/real-life-is-enough.html
Sunday, July 09, 2006. Real life is enough. A backpacking guru I know told me I should be out on the trail in preparation for my 55-mile haul on the JMT this August. No way I can get ready down in the flat land, said he. You need to be at elevation," he advised me. "You need to be walking up a trail with some weight on your back. I don't care if you're a tri-athlete. You can't do all that from down here.". You got it. A 25-year-old stud boy and little old me, the 50-plus nut case. Turns out, I wasn't pay...

Muir madness: A bad moon rising
http://make-mine-muir.blogspot.com/2006/07/bad-moon-rising.html
Tuesday, July 04, 2006. A bad moon rising. Anyway, I have to settle this dispute before I can backpack this lovely mountain glen in the Dinkey Creek area. My little guy is supposed to go with me, but I can't very well reward him for getting suspended from school. I didn't do it very long," he offered. So there I am talking to Vice Principal Wormer (OK, that's not really his name.). You shouldn't make him stay home for this," I said. "It's like a reward.". He would hate that.". In my dream, as in real lif...

Shutter at the sight: The sunset I have wanted for years
http://mark-grossi.blogspot.com/2011/12/sunset-i-have-wanted-for-years.html
Shutter at the sight. A lifelong word person in search of the best landscape photography. Saturday, December 3, 2011. The sunset I have wanted for years. I finally got a sunset in Morro Bay this year. Usually, we pass through this little Central California tourist stop, have a great dinner and watch the fog surround the big volcanic remnant sitting in the bay. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Links you want to see. One more before New Years Day. The sunset I have wanted for years.

Shutter at the sight: July 2011
http://mark-grossi.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Shutter at the sight. A lifelong word person in search of the best landscape photography. Saturday, July 23, 2011. Sometimes accidental photos are the best. Meet Lily. She is my first grandchild, and she is an absolute treasure. This shot is an accident. I was trying to shoot available light in my backyard, not having much luck underneath he patio. Light meter kept reading the sunlight in the yard, as it should. I turned the camera, my little Canon, off and thought about it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Shutter at the sight: Smooth sailing
http://mark-grossi.blogspot.com/2010/09/smooth-sailing.html
Shutter at the sight. A lifelong word person in search of the best landscape photography. Saturday, September 11, 2010. I saw this guy sailing the back bay at Morro. Thought it looked pretty cool under the overcast. I'm not much with editing photos. I just let the computer program set the lighting. I usually mess with the cropping a little. I'm using Picasa. No idea how good it is. I'm told Photoshop is the way to go. Well, I don't have it yet, so Picasa is the way I go for now. Links you want to see.

Shutter at the sight: January 2010
http://mark-grossi.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Shutter at the sight. A lifelong word person in search of the best landscape photography. Tuesday, January 19, 2010. A classic Hegre shot. Kurt Hegre is a former newspaper photographer whose talents are clearly beyond the needs of a daily publication. This shot belongs in an art gallery. It says so much about the life cycle and winter. I'll let you know when Kurt is showing his work at a public gathering. Wednesday, January 13, 2010. Winter sunset in Fresno. Monday, January 11, 2010. You know the drill.

Shutter at the sight: One more before New Year's Day
http://mark-grossi.blogspot.com/2011/12/one-more-before-new-years-day.html
Shutter at the sight. A lifelong word person in search of the best landscape photography. Saturday, December 31, 2011. One more before New Year's Day. This shot was taken in the high country of Kings Canyon National Park on an amazing day. The little glaciers along the Sierra crest looked like they were right in front of us all day as we climbed to Bishop Pass. Might be time to update my Canon. I think I need a 28 mm. I need to ask around to see what people think. Have a great 2012. Links you want to see.
