Ger's Camino Blog – Camino de Santiago. Making sense of my Camino Francés. April 7, 2015. I wouldn’t ordinarily draw attention to this but I’ve been slow to post recently and I’ve been chasing my tail with every recent post. Short story: a nasty chest infection, a dramatic flu, and a change in my workspace all upended my routine for writing. Added to that, a broken laptop, a water-damaged smart phone that won’t switch on (ouch! The royal *we* hope that normal business will resume soon! Liked by 1 person.

Ger's Camino Blog – Camino de Santiago. Making sense of my Camino Francés. The Things You Remember (and Forget). October 18, 2016. October 18, 2016. It’s been a while, I know. Every day, I’m “writing in my head” and coming up with things I want to share here. That’s fine for a while but I need to write “outside of my head” every now and then, too. So here I (finally) am. And lately, I’ve been thinking about the Camino de Santiago in a new way and how I write about it. Let me explain:. That’s an awf...

Ger's Camino Blog – Camino de Santiago. Making sense of my Camino Francés. Why did I Walk? Part 2: A Divine Decision). March 12, 2015. March 12, 2015. Walking 500 miles of Camino transformed me and that transformation started before I ever stepped onto the trail in the south of France. Deciding to walk camino was only. My* decision. There were other factors and forces at work. Without that divine decision, I wouldn’t have been able to keep going on those days when I was sore and exhausted. Has prompted m...

Ger's Camino Blog – Camino de Santiago. Making sense of my Camino Francés. Pilgrim Blessings on Camino de Santiago. November 17, 2014. January 8, 2015. Wanted to walk the 800km to Santiago. Ego didn’t want for me to get so injured that we’d have to go home early, and face an audience who might judge me, and call me foolish and reckless. Left a permanent job to walk the Camino, only to come home after just a week? O God, who brought your servant Abraham out of the land of the Chaldeans, protecting him in.

Ger's Camino Blog – Camino de Santiago. Making sense of my Camino Francés. Camino Continues: Bye Bye Burgos! August 12, 2015. Distance left to Santiago: 501.2 km. After stopping off in Burgos. I hoped to walk to San Bol. That afternoon and at 24km, it seemed like a reasonable distance. But with only 12 beds, I had my doubts that this private hostel would have space for me by the time I’d arrive. Pilgrims. I don’t know whether it was because I had slept well, or began to find my rhythm, or what, but...

The year I turn 50…. and beyond. I am a fair, fat, flatulent, female losing my fertility as I near fifty! Not only a description of me but also qualifying for the 5 f’s of cholelithiasis (keen observers will notice a 6th f but now I’m really sharing info here). Thirty-three years ago, as I sat in class learning the marvels of the human body, I caught a glimpse of my future and it wasn’t pretty. Join me as I traipse across Europe with family and friends in tow. 5 thoughts on “ About. I envy you – I ...

The Camino de Santiago. Follow the Yellow Shell. Adventures on the Camino de Santiago. Day 21 – El Acebo to Cacabelos. Asymp; 3 Comments. Ulrich was alive and noisy in our 24 person room last night along with his brothers and cousins. What a racket! We hit the road about 6.30am and what a joy it was. We hiked downhill dropping about 1,500 ft along dry mountain stream beds through hidden valleys and then alongside some small lovely gurgling streams. Burny stopped for a religious moment. Nidarosa the hiker, traveler, pilgrim. St Olav’s Way 2013. ST OLAV’S WAY 2018. Wales Coast Path 2014. Hadrian’s Wall 2015. I don’t remember much in the way of concrete places and events, maybe because we were both new to this and hadn’t seen each other for a while (we live in different countries) so we had lots to talk about, and lots of silence while we walked in perfect unison and contentment along the forest roads, along cliffs down to beaches and through little villages. I remember the little old lad...

The Scouse Spouse and I planned a quick holiday walking Hadrian’s Wall Path. In the North of England, but there were many things to consider: Do we want to go westwards or eastwards? Camping or B&B-ing it? What time of year? How busy is it? Do we really need boots or can we wear shoes? Hadrian’s Wall Path – Day 0. Getting there and packing list. I found one: Woma...
